Book Description
Unbored is the book every modern child needs. Brilliantly walking the line between cool and constructive, it's crammed with activities that are not only fun and doable but that also get kids standing on their own two feet. If you're a kid, you can: -- Build a tipi or an igloo -- Learn to knit -- Take stuff apart and fix it -- Find out how to be constructively critical -- Film a stop-action movie or edit your own music -- Do parkour like James Bond -- Make a little house for a mouse from lollipop sticks -- Be independent! Catch a bus solo or cook yourself lunch -- Make a fake exhaust for your bike so it sounds like you're revving up a motorcycle -- Design a board game -- Go camping (or glamping) -- Plan a road trip -- Get proactive and support the causes you care about -- Develop your taste and decorate your own room -- Make a rocket from a coke bottle -- Play farting games There are gross facts and fascinating stories, reports on what stuff is like (home schooling, working in an office...), Q&As with inspiring grown-ups, extracts from classic novels, lists of useful resources and best ever lists like the top clean rap songs, stop-motion movies or books about rebellion. Just as kids begin to disappear into their screens, here is a book that encourages them to use those tech skills to be creative, try new things and change the world. And it gets parents to join in. Unbored is fully illustrated, easy to use and appealing to young and old, girl and boy. Parents will be comforted by its anti-perfectionist spirit and humour. Kids will just think it's brilliant.

Not illustrated. 1922 edition. Excerpt: ...company financing. 7 cases.--Ratios above 100'. Five cases out of the 7 were from one holding company in the east. Ratios for this company were very unusual as follows: Year....... 1919 1920 1921 1922 1923 Ratio...... 442 341 197 260 269 'Note that these ratios are one hundred and not one. With a ratio of 1.00 the current assets and current liabilities are equal; with a ratio of 100, as in some of the unusual cases, the current assets are one hundred times as large as the current liabilities. The ratio in 1924 was more normal for the reason that there had been a great increase in the current liabilities in the balance sheet in contrast to prior years where the current liabilities had been negligible--a change in financial policy. Out of the sixty-seven cases here designated as unusual, fortyeight showed a ratio of ten or more. The apparent causes for most of these would seem to be for the most part either the entire absence of any current liabilities or the existence of current liabilities in very negligible amounts. In one case there were no current assets. Such cases account for twenty-five of the forty-eight unusual cases above a ratio of ten. In seven more cases the currentliabilities may be designated as low rather than negligible. In nine cases there was in comparison with prior years a decrease in current liabilities at the same time there was an increase in current assets. This, of course, made for a higher ratio. In some cases the current assets may be designated as unusually large and increasing with the current liabilities not unusual. One final point about these unusual cases. It may be interesting to note which type of company and which geographical section of the country contains the larger proportion of the...

Zahra lives in a beautiful place where the desert reaches all the way to the sea and one hundred butterflies always fill the sky. When Baba and Mama tell her that their family is no longer welcome here and they must leave, Zahra wonders if she will ever feel at home again--and what about the people she will leave behind? But when she and her family arrive in a new desert, she's surprised to find magic all around her. Home might not be as far away as she thought it would be. With spare, moving text and vivid artwork, Zahra Marwan tells the true story of her and her family's immigration from Kuwait, where they were considered stateless, to New Mexico, where together they made a new home. "Utterly original and enjoyable from start to finish." -Betsy Bird, librarian, book critic, and author of Long Road to the Circus
