Dyke Swarms - Time Markers of Crustal Evolution

Dyke Swarms - Time Markers of Crustal Evolution PDF Author: E. Hanski
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000006719
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
Dyke swarms are remnants of large igneous provinces, and are pointers of continental break-up events, as well as indicators for ancient continental reconstructions. These global geodynamic aspects are of crucial significance in tectonics, and with recent developments in high-precision age, dating it has become possible to enter these short-lived ma

Mineral Deposits of Finland

Mineral Deposits of Finland PDF Author: Wolfgang Derek Maier
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0124104762
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 819

Book Description
Mineral Deposits of Finland is the only up-to-date and inclusive reference available that fully captures the scope of Finland's mineral deposits and their economic potential. Finland hosts Europe's most mature rocks and large cratonic blocks, analogous to western Australia and Southern Africa, which are the most mineralized terrains on Earth.Authored by the world's premier experts on Finnish mineral exploration and mining, Mineral Deposits of Finland offers a thorough summary of the mineral deposits and their petrogenesis, helping readers to map, explore, and identify Finland's renewed potential for mineral exploration and extraction. - Presents a thoroughly inclusive catalogue of Finland's mineral deposits and their economic potential - Features full-color figures, illustrations, working examples and photographs to aid the reader in retaining key concepts to underscore major advances in the exploration of Finland's mineral resources - Offers concise chapter summaries authored by leaders in geological research, which provide accessible overviews of deposit classes

Crust–Mantle Interactions and Granitoid Diversification

Crust–Mantle Interactions and Granitoid Diversification PDF Author: J. Halla
Publisher: Geological Society of London
ISBN: 1786202808
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
This Special Publication sheds light on crust formation and tectonic processes in early Earth by focusing on Archaean granitoids and related rocks from West Greenland in the North Atlantic Craton, Karelia Province of the Fennoscandian Shield, Eastern Dharwar and Bundelkhand cratons in the Indian Shield and Bug Complex of the Ukrainian Shield. Resulting from the IGCP-SIDA 599 project `The Changing Early Earth’, this compilation of papers provides explanations on the nomenclature of Archaean granitoids and explores the petrology, element and isotope geochemistry, geochronology and metamorphism of granitoids and supracrustal rocks of variable metamorphic grade. This volume provides information on the increase and timing of crust-mantle interactions and granitoid diversification from early Archaean protoliths of island arc origin to the emergence of multi-source high-K calc-alkaline granitoid batholiths at convergent continental margins. The formation of abundant granitoid batholiths suggests a significant change in mantle dynamics and plate tectonics towards the end of the Archaean.

Granitic Systems

Granitic Systems PDF Author: O.T. Ramo
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 9780444518828
Category : Science

Pages : 430

Book Description
This special volume stems from a symposium 'Granitic Systems - State of the Art and Future Avenues' that was held at the Department of Geology, University of Helsinki to mark the retirement of Professor Ilmari Haapala. The twenty articles in the volume cover a wide range of granite-related topics and focus on three general themes: tectonics and source regions, petrologic processes, and fractionated granites and pegmatites. Both original papers and reviews are included, and the volume will be acknowledged by anyone with a background in Earth Sciences ad a flavor for granitoid rocks. * Comprehensive account of the current status of granite-oriented research * Topics ranging from mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry to tectonics and crustal evolution

Impacts in Precambrian Shields

Impacts in Precambrian Shields PDF Author: Jüri Plado
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662050102
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
The present volume is the result of activities within the scientific programme "Response of the Earth System to Impact Processes" (IMP ACT) of the European Science Foundation (ESF). The ESF is an association of 67 national member organisations devoted to scientific research in 24 European countries. The IMPACT programme is aimed at understanding meteorite impact processes and their effects on the Earth System. Launched in 1998 for a duration of 5 years, the programme is now supported by 15 ESF membership countries. The programme of meteorite impact research and operates through deals with all aspects workshops, exchange programs, and short courses. The 4th IMPACT programme workshop "Meteorite Impacts in Precambrian Shields" took place on May 24-28, 2000, in Lappajarvi, western Finland. A total of 84 scientists from 19 countries from Europe, North America, and Africa participated in the workshop. During the workshop, 43 oral, 31 poster, and several video presentations were made. An exhibition of impactite rocks from Finnish craters and two excursions were organised. The excursion to impact melt rock outcrops of the Lappajarvi structure took place during the workshop. The Karikkoselka and Saaksjarvi impact structures in south-central Finland were visited during the post-meeting excursion.
