Large quantities of grain were buried for preservation, tho the squirrels, woodchucks, crows, and other birds and animals secured a large share. Roasting-ear time was second only to the sugar-making season. The corn furnished supplies for the war parties. The Indians were not exclusively a hunting and fighting people.
