Book Description
"Occupational health and safety management - Psychological health and safety at work - Guidelines for managing psychosocial risks, gives guidance on managing psychological health and safety risks within an occupational health and safety management system. It addresses the many areas that can impact a worker's psychological health, including ineffective communication, excessive pressure, poor leadership and organizational culture. The standard covers aspects such as how to identify the conditions, circumstances and workplace demands that have the potential to impair the psychological health and well-being of workers; how to identify primary risk factors and assess them to determine what changes are required to improve the working environment; and how to identify and control work-related hazards and manage psychosocial risk within an occupational health and safety management system."-- ISO.org.

Well-being and Wellness: Psychosocial Risk Management

Well-being and Wellness: Psychosocial Risk Management PDF Author: Tony Boyle
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040108520
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 423

Book Description
Well-being and Wellness: Psychosocial Risk Management is a companion to Health and Safety: Risk Management that describes the techniques and background knowledge for preventing injury and ill health in the workplace. The new book instead describes the techniques and background knowledge for preventing impairment of worker well-being and wellness. These techniques differ from those required for the prevention of injury and ill health because of the need to take into account individual differences in susceptibility to psychosocial risk sources, and the fact that psychosocial risk sources can provide opportunities as well as threats. The book is divided into two parts: Part I describes the required background knowledge, including the nature of psychosocial harms to individuals, what can trigger these harms, and what can be done to mitigate these harms, and also deals with the necessary psychological background and the role of individual differences in reactions to psychosocial risk sources. Part II describes an outline psychosocial management system based on the ISO 45001 specification and the guidance in ISO 45002 and ISO 45003. However, the nature of the psychosocial risk sources being dealt with means that the ISO 45001 requirements must be extended in a number of ways, for example, by having threat and opportunity assessment, rather than risk assessment. Written primarily for OH&S professionals who wish to extend the scope of their management system to include well-being and wellness issues, the book is also directly beneficial to human resources (HR) professionals who have the responsibility for managing psychosocial hazards such as bullying and harassment. Additionally, it can be understood and applied by managers in all sectors who want to improve the well-being and wellness of their team, and it will be a relevant reading for students on OH&S, HR, or management courses.

Managing Psychosocial Hazards and Work-Related Stress in Today’s Work Environment

Managing Psychosocial Hazards and Work-Related Stress in Today’s Work Environment PDF Author: Ellen Pinkos Cobb
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000597008
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 163

Book Description
Today’s evolving world of work makes it imperative for employers to manage psychosocial hazards (PSH) and risks leading to work-related stress. This book contains essential, general, and country-specific information and templates for the successful management of hazards to prevent psychological harm in the workplace. Acknowledged as global issues affecting all workers and industries, PSH are work factors that have the potential to lead to physical or psychological injury and stress, relating to how work is designed, organized, and managed, and to work relationships and interactions. This book advances the idea that management of PSH, and psychological health and safety, is part of the duty of care of today’s responsible and ethical employers to employees, and that U.S. employers should recognize this responsibility. Clear and easy to follow, this guide presents comprehensive information on addressing PSH, discussing measures taken internationally (laws, guidance, and resources from Europe, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Japan), and a new global standard on psychological health and safety at work. (Note: At times within this book, and Part II in particular, punctuation may be added to quoted provisions for ease of reading and for consistency.) Practitioners and students in the fields of management, occupational health and safety, human resource management, ethics and compliance, occupational health psychology, and organizational psychology will come away with a deeper understanding of the importance of PSH and their management.

Safety Management Beyond Iso 45001

Safety Management Beyond Iso 45001 PDF Author: Andrew Yew
Publisher: Partridge Publishing Singapore
ISBN: 1543755267
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 175

Book Description
Safety management in many organizations is simply a mirage and yet people rely on it to protect their lives and assets. Management must come to understand that the implemented safety management systems may be sitting on weak foundations and may not perform when relied upon. Many safety management systems are mere “paper tigers” and in reality, just a paper-exercise. Valuable lessons can be learnt from how safety was mismanaged or had become dysfunctional in many organizations so that these pitfalls can be avoided. Lessons can also be learnt from organizations that have successfully navigated their safety management despite the challenges discussed in the book. Stakeholders need to scrutinize the effectiveness of the controls in place, rather than be another participant in the safety charade. To maximize payback and effectiveness, a safety management system must attend to the needs of each different organization. A “one-size-fits-all” standardized solution will invariably be sub-optimal. Importantly, the safety management system implemented must commensurate with the risk exposure of the organization.
