Book Description
A true story of the 29 men who brought back a WWII LST in 2000-01 from Crete, Greece to Mobile, AL. Robert Jornlin was made Captain by the crew replacing the original Captain. This is the behind the scenes story as told by him. He has given over 600 spellbounding talks all over the USA. The ship was in terrible shape, 58 yrs. old. The first men found the ship in the Greek Navy 'bone yard.' I told my wife I would be gone only six weeks, but repairs, red tape, and many obstacles placed in the way by our government delayed the departure. The fifty man crew dwindled to just twenty-eight as the Captain in desperation signed on a History Channel video photographer as a crewman. These delays pushed the departure into early winter in the Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic, but these veterans would not give up on LST 325 that beached at Sicily in '43 and was at D-day June 6, 1944. Average age of this crew now 72, started from Crete on Nov.14th for the U.S. This is their story.

The Hero's Walk

The Hero's Walk PDF Author: Anita Rau Badami
Publisher: Vintage Canada
ISBN: 0307363953
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 366

Book Description
After the release of Anita Rau Badami's critically acclaimed first novel, Tamarind Mem, it was evident a promising new talent had joined the Canadian literary community. Her dazzling literary follow-up is The Hero's Walk, a novel teeming with the author's trademark tumble of the haphazard beauty, wreckage and folly of ordinary lives. Set in the dusty seaside town of Toturpuram on the Bay of Bengal, The Hero's Walk traces the terrain of family and forgiveness through the lives of an exuberant cast of characters bewildered by the rapid pace of change in today's India. Each member of the Rao family pits his or her chance at personal fulfillment against the conventions of a crumbling caste and class system. Anita Rau Badami explains that "The Hero's Walk is a novel about so many things: loss, disappointment, choices and the importance of coming to terms with yourself and the circumstances of your life without losing the dignity embedded in all of us. At one level it is about heroism - not the hero of the classic epic, those enormous god-sized heroes - but my fascination with the day-to-day heroes and the heroism that's needed to survive all the unexpected disasters and pitfalls of life."

The Art of Neighboring

The Art of Neighboring PDF Author: Jay Pathak
Publisher: Baker Books
ISBN: 1441238476
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 186

Book Description
Once upon a time, people knew their neighbors. They talked to them, had cook-outs with them, and went to church with them. In our time of unprecedented mobility and increasing isolationism, it's hard to make lasting connections with those who live right outside our front door. We have hundreds of "friends" through online social networking, but we often don't even know the full name of the person who lives right next door. This unique and inspiring book asks the question: What is the most loving thing I can do for the people who live on my street or in my apartment building? Through compelling true stories of lives impacted, the authors show readers how to create genuine friendships with the people who live in closest proximity to them. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book perfect for small groups or individual study.

Different

Different PDF Author: Sally Clarkson
Publisher: NavPress
ISBN: 1496420144
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 257

Book Description
Nathan was different and Sally knew it. From his early childhood, Nathan was bursting with creativity and uncontainable energy, struggling not only with learning issues but also with anxiety and OCD. He saw the world through his own unique lens—one that often caused him to be labeled as “bad,” “troubled,” or someone in need of “fixing.” Bravely choosing to listen to her motherly intuition rather than the loud voices of the world, Sally dared to believe that Nathan’s differences could be part of an intentional design from a loving Creator with a plan for his life. She trusted that the things that made him different were the very things that could make him great. Join Sally and Nathan as they share their stories from a personal perspective as mother and son. If you are in need of help and hope in your own journey with an outside-the-box child, or if you’re an adult trying to make sense of your differences, you’ll find deep insight, resonance, and encouragement in the pages of this book. Dare to love and nurture the “different” one in your life.

ISBN: 1400228026
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 225

Book Description
New York Times bestselling author Donald Miller shares the plan that led him to turn his life around. This actionable guide will teach you how to do the same through journaling prompts and goal-planning exercises. There are four characters in every story: The victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, bestselling author Donald Miller uses his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning. He breaks down the transformational, yet practical, plan that took him from slowly giving up to rapidly gaining a new perspective of his own life’s beauty and meaning, igniting his motivation, passion, and productivity, so you can do the same. In Hero on a Mission, Donald’s lessons will teach you how to: Discover when you are playing the victim and villain. Create a simple life plan that will bring clarity and meaning to your goals ahead. Take control of your life by choosing to be the hero in your story. Cultivate a sense of creativity about what your life can be. Move beyond just being productive to experiencing a deep sense of meaning. Donald will help you identify the many chances you have of being the hero in your life, and the times when you are falling into the trap of becoming the victim.
