Book Description
Bosoms and Bottoms, a series of photographs and large-scale artist book by LG Williams, records the activity of the artist in Hawaii when he was wary of surfing dangerously large waves in the winter swells of 2001-2002. With a small digital camera, LG, in his words, "used this camera as a way of documenting beautiful areas of the beach, not fully appreciated, over-looked, or discarded." Two hundred and thirteen photographs reveal facets of LG's walk along the beautiful beaches of Waikiki. His camera caught everything up-close and personal: bosoms and bottoms, thongs and towels, along with other images indicative of Hawaii's tropical scenery. LG caught many bright flashes of movement with his lens, like a hand covering a bellyring with suntan lotion, or striking head-on images of sunbathers, eyes glowing as they bask in the sun. References to the artist's imaginative process implicit in Bosoms and Bottoms invokes certain early pieces of the artist's work from of the late 1990s, when he directed his focus to pursuing representative images in his Southern California Bel Air studio. For Year in Rearview (1997), LG committed himself to making one hundred ephemeral condom photos in a year. His series of paintings from this time, such as End of a Legend (1999) and The Bottom Line and The Position Paintings (2000-2001), were also conceived in this studio and involve one long concentrated activity repeated in provocative and suggestive ways. Today, many consider LG among the elite pioneers working in the visual arts. In his current involvement with incidents ostensibly both banal and pointed, he reverts to a recurrent theme in his oeuvre that has consistently proven as deceptive as it is alarming. A Product of Their Time

A Product of Their Time PDF Author: Wayne Ward
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1490780866
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 621

Book Description
A unique breed of men and women emerged from the latter part of the nineteenth century. Some risked their lives on the footropes of sailing ships, others rose to prominence in industry, politics and government. Many forged new lives in far-off lands, but all were joined by a common thread to grasp a rapidly changing world and claim a niche in history. Olaf Johansson sailed halfway around the world to find his destiny on the banks of a river of little significance when compared to the great waterways of the world, but for an arid continent a vital artery of commerce. Along its crumbling red clay banks and verdant redgum forests old penal colonies strove for nationhood, eventually achieving independence though never fully casting off the yoke of its old colonial master. A Product of Their Time is a saga of survival, men and women overcoming the brutal and iron-fisted rule of privilege, class and authority.

Book Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “As feline collaborators go, you couldn’t ask for better than Sneaky Pie Brown.”—The New York Times Book Review It’s mid-May and murder is once again in full bloom in Crozet, Virginia—or so it seems to Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen. The trouble begins when Harry’s dear friend Miranda Hogendobber takes her on a leisurely drive that ends in a narrow drainage ditch. The chaos continues when the Very Reverend Herbert Jones’s Chevy pickup also abruptly goes kaput. But these vehicular mishaps are nothing compared to the much more distressing state of a mechanic discovered by Harry in a local repair shop: His head’s been bashed in. Despite numerous warnings from her much-loved coterie of friends, human and otherwise, Harry quickly surmises that the time has come to pop the hood and conduct her own investigation. Her animal companions see disaster fast approaching but can do little except try their best to protect their foolishly intrepid human. Harry’s race to the truth leads straight to powerful forces determined to avoid scrutiny at any cost—even if it means running Harry Haristeen off the road for good. Includes a preview of Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown’s next Mrs. Murphy mystery, The Litter of the Law. “Harry and her pals are on the case. . . . [Brown] fills the series with rich central Virginia color, and readers will greet the recurring characters with fondness.”—Richmond Times-Dispatch “[A] delightful book.”—Huntington News
