Fitter, Further, Faster

Fitter, Further, Faster PDF Author: Rebecca Charlton
Publisher: A&C Black
ISBN: 1408186527
Category : Sports & Recreation
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
In the same way as mass-participation events in running have captured the public imagination, cycling events in which everyone can take part have burgeoned in popularity since they were first introduced in the UK in the late 1990s, with a raft of events now covering a range of distances, many selling out within days and offering the chance to be involved to thousands of entrants. Fitter, Further, Faster is a complete guide to how to prepare for road riding and sportive events aimed both at first timers and those more experienced. Organised around a six-month timeline that shows readers how to prepare for an event, it looks at training plans - for speed, endurance, pacing, technique and attitude on climbs - leading up to the event itself and subsequent effective recovery. It covers diet, how to cope in all weathers, the rules and etiquette of road riding, the mind, the body, coping with injuries and breakdowns and on-the-bike nutrition. Showcasing some of the best sportives in the world, the book is filled with high-quality photographs and illustrations, along with case studies and personal accounts from leading riders.

Wilting Souls

Wilting Souls PDF Author: CRJ Riggins
Publisher: Tiers of the Imperiums™
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 228

Book Description
Are the darkest among us born this way? Or did something make them that way? If something made them that way, what could it have been? Wilting souls’ saga will show you the metamorphosis of people as they become beings of pure darkness. “Wanting love, happiness, and peace of mind. I think you’re asking for too much,” said the Universe to anyone who ever wanted to keep their soul. Lord General Bandares is the most powerful Ground Assault General in the Adrasteia Empire, known for being vengeful and utterly ruthless. For months and even cycles on end he's been having premonitions that his only son Nairn would suffer a fate far worse than death. Unable to peg this feeling on any foreseeable event, he chose to watch and wait for something more tangible to act on than a bad dream. When the Emperor and Empress of Adrasteia order him not to leave Adrasteia binary system and to procreate with seven powerful new troops arriving from the Heka moon-worlds, he knew right away his premonitions were true, and that his son’s fate was somehow already sealed. From what he could surmise, they were trying to prevent him from doing anything to intercede, trapping him with Imperial rules that mandate a father’s duty to mother and child. A month later, six of the seven women who'd come to him with the same order to have his children were now with child. During this time, he'd begun to take a liking to one of the woman named Takumbo. With his dreams becoming more gruesome and vivid as the days passed, yet identifying no clear enemy that could harm his son, he decided to ask the Emperor and Empress what they were hiding. Receiving a twisted answer about fates sometime being intertwined and sometimes not, he could stand idle no more and decides to leave Adrasteia binary system in search of a way to protect his son. But he doesn't want to leave without passing down an important message to his unborn children. So as his sphere of nano material rises into the void, he leaves his memories with Takumbo...And this is when the story of Wilting Souls truly begins.

Barentin's Manor

Barentin's Manor PDF Author: Philip Page
Publisher: Oxford University School of Archaeology
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 224

Book Description
Archaeological investigations at Harding's Field, Chalgrove, revealed the remains of one of the most complete examples of a moated medieval manor yet excavated in England. Evidence of a pre-moat occupation dating from the first half of the 13th century, which may not have been seigneurial, was succeeded in the mid 13th century by the construction of the moated manor house. The documentary evidence indicates that this house belonged to the Barentins, a prominent Oxfordshire family. The manor underwent considerable alterations and improvements during the following 200 years, particularly during the early part of the 14th century and, to a lesser extent, in the late 14th and early 15th century. It passed out of the hands of the Barentin family shortly before it was demolished in the late 15th century.

An International Psychology of Men

An International Psychology of Men PDF Author: Chris Blazina
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1135280657
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 454

Book Description
This text is the first to provide a contextual understanding of the clinical issues that affect men and masculinity across a wide range of cultural and national settings. It demonstrates that gender can no longer be viewed as an isolated characteristic; in an era of increased globalization, mental health professionals need to take ethnic and cultural issues into account to provide adequate care for male patients. Numerous international perspectives are offered by the contributing authors, authorities from countries such as Australia, Argentina, Denmark, Canada, India, Ireland, and South Africa, on theoretical and clinical innovations for working with men. Their chapters also offer insight into the socio-cultural contexts for counseling men in and from their respective countries by exploring the ways in which "being a man" is socially defined, what unique challenges men face, and how these challenges can be negotiated within their specific cultural settings. Topics addressed will include boyhood notions of manhood, relationship concerns and power, fatherhood, and men’s body image across the life span. This text will ultimately enable mental health practitioners to have a better understanding of how to work more effectively with male clients.
