The Clinical Pathology of the Blood (Classic Reprint)

The Clinical Pathology of the Blood (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Rud; R. V. Limbeck
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781332313563
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 354

Book Description
Excerpt from The Clinical Pathology of the Blood The following translation was authorised by Professor v. Limbeck shortly before his premature death and represents the latest German edition save for the fact that Dr. Freund's chapter, which deals chiefly with the physiological aspects of blood coagulation, and certain other passages have been considerably condensed. Professor v. Limbeck had a world-wide reputation as an authority upon all points connected with the physiology, pathology, and chemistry of the blood, and his early death was a heavy blow to every one interested in these subjects. He was a man of singularly engaging nature and of enormous capacity for work, and notwithstanding the many; calls upon his time, was ever ready to help any who, like ourselves, had the inestimable privilege of working with him. Li addition to this Professor v. Limbeck combined many qualities which are not always associated with great learning. He was generously appreciative of the work done by others; whilst on those rare occasions on which he was shown to be at fault, he was the first to admit his error. A touch of quiet humour and gentle satire also characterised him, as may be seen in the few but telling words with which he dismisses the plausible theory of Bunge, and the preposterous one of Neusser. Book Description
Excerpt from The Blood in Health and Disease Blood has a peculiar and characteristic Odour which soon disappears after Withdrawal from the vessels. The somewhat oleaginous feel to the touch which blood gives is soon lost, as its coagulation renders it Viscid and sticky. The specific gravity of the blood as a whole averages about 1060, and its reaction is identical with that of the serum or plasma, from the presence of sodium carbonate and disodic phosphate. Diagnosis of Blood and Bone Marrow Disorders

Diagnosis of Blood and Bone Marrow Disorders PDF Author: Sa A. Wang
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319202790
Category : Medical
Languages : id
Pages : 413

Book Description
This book focuses on hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms that initially present as peripheral blood abnormalities, with either cytopenias or elevated peripheral blood counts, as well as non-neoplastic conditions that may raise concern for a hematologic malignancy. The scope of the book includes myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), mixed myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN), as well as lymphomas and lymphoid leukemias that typically present initially with peripheral blood abnormalities. Within each category, a comprehensive list of differential diagnoses is discussed. For each disease entity, the reader is updated with new molecular genetic data, biomarkers, and recent applications of immunophenotyping, and how to incorporate the new information in disease diagnosis and classifications is illustrated, including the use of diagnostic algorithms where appropriate. The book employs the revised WHO Classification of Hematopoietic Neoplasms for all disease entities. Diagnosis of Blood and Bone Marrow Disorders will serve as a very useful resource for pathologists, pathologists in training, hematologists and medical technologists who are involved in the clinical work-up of patients with bone marrow and blood neoplasms. It will provide a practical and concise yet comprehensive review.

Fibrous Proteins: Structures and Mechanisms

Fibrous Proteins: Structures and Mechanisms PDF Author: David A.D. Parry
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319496743
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 630

Book Description
This book provides the readers with an up-to-date review of the design, structure and function of a representative selection of fibrous proteins in both health and disease. The importance of the α-helical coiled coil, a conformational motif based on the heptad repeat in the amino acid sequence of all α-fibrous proteins (and parts of some globular proteins) is underlined by three Chapters devoted to its design, structure, function and topology. Specific proteins covered in the text and which depend on the coiled coil for their structure and function, include the intermediate filament proteins, tropomyosin, myosin, paramyosin, fibrin and members of the spectrin superfamily. Also described are fibrous proteins based on the β-pleated sheet and collagen conformations. Recombinant structural proteins, especially of silk and collagen, are discussed in the context of developing new biomaterials with varied applications. Established researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of protein chemistry, biochemistry and structural biophysics will find Fibrous Proteins: Structures and Mechanisms to be an invaluable collection of topical reviews that describe the basic advances made in the field of fibrous proteins over the past decade. This book, written by recognized authorities in the field, provides a clear account of the current status of fibrous protein research and, in addition, establishes the basis for deciding the most appropriate directions for future activity, including the applications of protein engineering and the commercial exploitation of new biomaterials.
