A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking

A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking PDF Author: Charles J. Amlaner
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483189317
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 825

Book Description
A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking presents the proceedings of an International Conference on Telemetry and Radio Tracking in Biology and Medicine, held in The University of Oxford, Oxford, U.K. on March 20–22, 1979. This book illustrates the advances connected with every aspect of biotelemetry and radio tracking. Organized into five parts encompassing 101 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the method that allows assessment or control of biological parameters from animals, subjects, and patients with comparatively little disturbance and restraint. This text then examines radio telemetry as a system for telemetry or communications over great distances. Other chapters consider better transmitter design and construction of radio tracking. This book discusses as well telemetric measurements of hemodynamic response to driving in coronary patients. The final chapter deals with the study of the coastal movements of Atlantic salmon tagged with ultrasonic transmitters. This book is a valuable resource for biological researchers and ecologists.

Underwater Acoustic Digital Signal Processing and Communication Systems

Underwater Acoustic Digital Signal Processing and Communication Systems PDF Author: Robert Istepanian
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475736177
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 283

Book Description
Underwater acoustic digital signal processing and communications is an area of applied research that has witnessed major advances over the past decade. Rapid developments in this area were made possible by the use of powerful digital signal processors (DSPs) whose speed, computational power and portability allowed efficient implementation of complex signal processing algorithms and experimental demonstration of their performance in a variety of underwater environments. The early results served as a motivation for the development of new and improved signal processing methods for underwater applications, which today range from classical of autonomous underwater vehicles and sonar signal processing, to remote control underwater wireless communications. This book presents the diverse areas of underwater acoustic signal processing and communication systems through a collection of contributions from prominent researchers in these areas. Their results, both new and those published over the past few years, have been assembled to provide what we hope is a comprehensive overview of the recent developments in the field. The book is intended for a general audience of researchers, engineers and students working in the areas of underwater acoustic signal processing. It requires the reader to have a basic understanding of the digital signal processing concepts. Each topic is treated from a theoretical perspective, followed by practical implementation details. We hope that the book can serve both as a study text and an academic reference.

Handbook of Ethological Methods

Handbook of Ethological Methods PDF Author: Philip N. Lehner
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521637503
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 700

Book Description
At first glance, studying behavior is easy, but as every budding ethologist quickly realises, there are a host of complex practical, methodological and analytical problems to solve before designing and conducting the study. How do you choose which species or which behavior to study? What equipment will you need to observe and record behavior successfully? How do you record data in the dark, in the wet, or without missing part of the action? How do you analyse and interpret the data to yield meaningful information? This new expanded edition of the Handbook of Ethological Methods provides a complete step-by-step introduction to ethological methods from topic choice and behavioral description to data collection and statistical analysis. This book will be a must for beginning students and experienced researchers studying animal behavior in the field or laboratory.

Neuroethology

Neuroethology PDF Author: J.-P. Ewert
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364267500X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 350

Book Description
Historically the search for the neural bases of behavior goes back a long way. Neuroethology, which is concerned with the experimental analysis ofthe releasing and control mech anisms of behavior, is a young discipline. Results from this multidisciplinary branch of research, which uses physical, chemical, and mathematical methods, have not yet been extensively treated in textbooks of neurophysiology and ethology. This book is intended as a first attempt to pose major questions of neuroethology and to demonstrate, by means of selected research examples, some of the ways by which these questions are being approached. Inevitably this cannot be a complete and in depth detailed treatment of all of the neurobiology examples, and I realize that such a selection is of a subjective nature. The overall goal ofthe book is to present an introduction. After outlining some of the very basic neurophysiological and ethological concepts (Chaps. 2 and 3), neuroethological questions and methods are demonstrated extensively by means of a particular example (Chap. 4). There are two reasons to choose the visually guided prey-catching and avoidance behavior of the Common Toad: (1) it is a system which I have inves tigated for about fifteen years and therefore know best, (2) the toad story is one of the most comprehensive neuro ethological approaches so far. Thus, it is possible here to outline the major concepts of neuroethology and to pose the basic questions.

Book Description
The Space Biology Program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an integrated research program whose primary objectives are: (1) to identify the biological systems that are affected by the space environment and to explain the responses of these systems to this unique environment, and (2) to utilize the space environment as a tool to probe biological questions that are impossible to answer on earth; thereby yielding important information to the understanding of how living systems function. The documents cited in this bibliography represent research supported, either totally or in part, by the Space Biology Program, Office of Space Science for the publication years 1975-1977. A second list of publications resulting from related independent research performed in these laboratories is presented as a supplement. Publisher.
