Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 012802500X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 460

Book Description
In Situ Tissue Regeneration: Host Cell Recruitment and Biomaterial Design explores the body’s ability to mobilize endogenous stem cells to the site of injury and details the latest strategies developed for inducing and supporting the body’s own regenerating capacity. From the perspective of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, this book describes the mechanism of host cell recruitment, cell sourcing, cellular and molecular roles in cell differentiation, navigational cues and niche signals, and a tissue-specific smart biomaterial system that can be applied to a wide range of therapies. The work is divided into four sections to provide a thorough overview and helpful hints for future discoveries: endogenous cell sources; biochemical and physical cues; smart biomaterial development; and applications. Explores the body’s ability to mobilize endogenous stem cells to the site of injury Details the latest strategies developed for inducing and supporting the body’s own regenerating capacity Presents smart biomaterials in cell-based tissue engineering applications—from the cell level to applications—in the first unified volume Features chapter authors and editors who are authorities in this emerging field Prioritizes a discussion of the future direction of smart biomaterials for in situ tissue regeneration, which will affect an emerging and lucrative industry

Regenerative Dentistry

Regenerative Dentistry PDF Author: Mona Marei
Publisher: Morgan & Claypool Publishers
ISBN: 160845214X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
Dental caries, periodontitis, tooth loss, and bone resorption are considered prevalent health problems that have direct affect on the quality of life. While, advances in stem cell biology and biotechnology have sparked hope for devastating maladies, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc., it also provides a strategy of regenerative therapy for dental tissues. From the prospective of tissue engineering, it is of utmost importance to understand and emulate the complex cell interactions that make up a tissue or organ. Unlike other tissues in the body, dental tissues are unique in their development, function, and even in their maintenance throughout life. The harmonized stimulations of biology and mechanical regulators to promote cellular activities have matured our understanding of the value of regenerative therapy of dental tissue versus the reparative treatment. In this book, we review the current knowledge available to regenerate alveolar bone, periodontal structure, and pulp/dentin complex. The book provides researchers with detailed information about development and functional characteristics of the dental unit with detailed protocols covering a comprehensive range of various approaches to engineer dental tissues: to use isolated cells or cell substitutes as cellular replacement, to use acellular biomaterials capable of inducing tissue regeneration, and/or to use a combination of cells, biomaterial and growth factors. We are well aware, with the concept changes in the field toward in-vitro biomimetics of in-vivo tissue development. The theoretical frame work integrating these concepts of developmental biology and developmental engineering is yet to be emphasized and implemented. Until this happens, we consider this book of regenerative dentistry as a call for scientists to achieve, researchers to innovate, practitioners to apply, and students to learn the art and science of regenerative therapy in dentistry. BMP-2 Incorporated BioCaP for Periodontal Regeneration in Experimental Periodontitis Model

BMP-2 Incorporated BioCaP for Periodontal Regeneration in Experimental Periodontitis Model PDF Author: Wei Lingfei

Book Description
Introduction: Sufficient regeneration has been only reported in 2- or 3-wall periodontal defects and it appears to be difficult in cases with supra-alveolar periodontal defect. Aim: In this research, we will explore the periodontal regeneration of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) coprecipitated biomimetic calcium phosphate (BioCaP) (BMP-2-cop.BioCaP) in an experimental periodontitis model with supra-alveolar periodontal defect. Methods: Chronic experimental periodontitis model with supra-alveolar periodontal defect was created in the mandibular of beagle dogs. The defects were randomly assigned with BMP-2-cop.BioCaP + Bio-Gideu00ae, BioCaP + Bio-Gideu00ae, Bio-Ossu00ae + Bio-Gideu00ae, Bio-Gideu00ae or no grafts (N=6). After 8 weeks, clinical parameters, microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) examinations and histomorphmetric analysis were evaluated to access periodontal regeneration. Results: Clinical appearances including plaque index, bleeding index and probing depth were similar for all experimental conditions. In contrast, the attachment loss was significantly reduced in defects receiving BMP-2-cop.BioCaP. Besides the result from Micro-CT show much more bone regeneration in BMP-2-cop.BioCaP filled defect than other groups. Conclusion: These results suggest that BMP-2-cop.BioCaP can be a benefit biomaterial for periodontal regeneration with supra-alveolar periodontal defects.
