Le Vacuome de la Cellule Végétale: Morphologie. Le Vacuome Animal. Contractile Vacuoles of Protozoa. Food Vacuoles

Le Vacuome de la Cellule Végétale: Morphologie. Le Vacuome Animal. Contractile Vacuoles of Protozoa. Food Vacuoles PDF Author: Pierre Dangeard
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3709157706

Pages : 182

Book Description
It is also possible that contractile vacuoles originate by some form of phase separation not yet understood and possibly involving the contractile properties of proteins, and' it is possible that this process continues to operate in the walls of the vacuoles or feeder canals. This secretory process may be the function of that part of the vacuolar apparatus which blackens on impregnation with osmic acid, and which seems to possess some degree of permanence from vacuole to vacuole and in some cases from parent to daughter cell. Remarkably little is known about the mechanism of systole. General body turgor may contribute, but it is not essential. In ciliates the main force is local and probably comes from a tension in the wall of the vacuole itself, but it is not known whether or not this is an active contraction of an oriented protein layer. The critical process for the initiation of systole is probably the opening of the pore. It is possible that in ciliates there is a rhythmically operating independent timing mechani,sm by which the vacuolar cycle is controlled, but its existence has not been demonstrated.

Mycorrhizal Technology in Agriculture

Mycorrhizal Technology in Agriculture PDF Author: S. Gianinazzi
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 3034881177
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (AM) is the most common mycorrhizal type involved in agricultural systems, and the most widespread plant root symbiosis. The fungi involved (Glomales) are known to promote plant growth and health by acting as biofertilizers, bioprotectors and bioregulators. The main aim of this book is to provide readers with theoretical and applied knowledge essential for the use of AM fungi in improving plant health and fitness, production of high quality food and in conservation of natural resources. The different chapters target understanding the role of AM fungi in sustainable crop production, discussing ways to improve biological equilibria between microorganisms in the mycorrhizosphere, analysing genetic, physiological, cellular and molecular bases of AM functioning and establishing technologies for inoculum production, according to the regulatory guidelines for application.

The Molecular Biology of Plastids

The Molecular Biology of Plastids PDF Author: Indra Vasil
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0323154026
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 367

Book Description
The Molecular Biology of Plastids: Cell Culture and Somatic Cell Genetics of Plants, Volume 7A deals with various aspects of plastid nucleic acid and protein metabolism. This book is organized into 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides the introduction to the molecular biology of plastids, followed by a discussion of the maps of restriction endonuclease sites on chloroplast chromosomes in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 focuses on chloroplast gene transmission, while Chapters 4 to 7 describe the apparatus for nucleic acid and protein metabolism and how some transcripts of chloroplast genes are processed. The ribosomal proteins, ribosomes, and translation in plastids are covered in Chapter 8. The last two chapters consider the organization, operation, and transport of polypeptides through the outer plastid membranes. This volume is a good reference for plant molecular biologist, genetic engineers, and researchers conducting work on the molecular biology of chloroplasts.

Functional Plant Genomics

Functional Plant Genomics PDF Author: J F Morot-Gaudry

Languages : en
Pages : 714

Book Description
The openings offered by functional genomics reconciles organism biology and molecular biology, in order to define an integrative biology that should allow new insights about how a phenotype is built up from a genotype in interaction with its environment. This book covers a wide area of concepts and methods in genomics. This range from international

Visualization of Nucleic Acids

Visualization of Nucleic Acids PDF Author: Gerard Morel
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849347818
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 398

Book Description
This book presents a review of the principle approaches for visualizing DNA and RNA. Using scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopes, the three-dimensional image of the surface of nucleic acids can be seen at atomic-scale resolutions. Spreading methods provide useful details on structural features of isolated molecules, but the major constituent of living matter is water, and the cryomicroscope makes it possible to look at DNA in its aqueous environment. Genes can be detected simultaneously in situ in chromosomes using fluorescent probes, and also at the electron microscopic level. In cells, nucleic acids are localized and quantified by dyes; electron microscopy is used with cytochemical, immunocytological, nuclease, and in situ hybridization methods. The main potential applications for pathological studies are shown with particular aspects such as viral nucleic acids and in situ PCR.

Biology And Radiobiology Of Anucleate Systems

Biology And Radiobiology Of Anucleate Systems PDF Author: Silvano Bonotto
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323152686
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 389

Book Description
Biology and Radiobiology of Anucleate Systems: II. Plant Cells encompasses the proceedings of International Symposium held in Mol, June 21-23, 1971. The symposium is organized by the Department of Radiobiology, Centre d'Etude de I'Energie Nucleaire (C.E.N./S.C.K.), Mol (Belgium) under the auspices of the Commission of the European Communities (EURATOM) and of the ""Relations Culturelles Internationales"" (Brussels). The aim of the three-day symposium is to bring together, for the first time, scientists working on anucleate systems obtained from bacteria and animal or plant cells. This volume is composed of 16 papers relating specifically to plant cells. Each paper is organized according to the date and session when they have been presented. This book will provide invaluable data for comparing the properties of anucleate Acetabularia with those of other anucleate cells, which would be very useful for better understanding of many problems concerning the nucleocytoplasmic relationships and cellular differentiation in normal and irradiated cells.

Lipid Metabolism in Plants
