Biocompatibility Or Cytotoxic Effects of Dental Composites

Biocompatibility Or Cytotoxic Effects of Dental Composites PDF Author: Michel Goldberg
Publisher: Coxmoor Publishing Company
ISBN: 9781901892345
Category : Dental amalgams
Languages : en
Pages : 222

Book Description
The evolution of resin-containing materials has resulted in a major advance in restorative dentistry as mercury-containing silver amalgam are used less in the dental practice. However, there is still a debate on the in vitro and in vivo biological properties of dental resins now considered as potential amalgam substitutes. Differing answers between clinical data as opposed to what is known about the tolerability or toxicity of resin-containing materials, creates some benefit/risk interrogations for dental practitioners. In order to reduce the gap between basic science and the clinic, a dialogue has been established between researchers in biomaterials and in biology, and also between researchers and clinicians. A group of well-recognized experts was asked by the Regional European Organization of the Federation Dentaire Internationale to report on the intrinsic properties, the biocompatibility or cytotoxic effects of dental composites. Consequently, the physico-chemical properties of resin based composites and dental adhesives are reviewed in this text. The interaction of resin-containing materials with soft dental and calcified tissues is then studied and adverse effects are reported in a series of in vitro and in vivo studies. In order to reconcile differing evaluations, laboratory data are compared with human clinical data. In addition, a final chapter aims to provide some insights on emerging trends in dental material research. A series of investigations on a new restorative cement are given as examples of future developments. The gap between the bench and the chair side is still open, but answers are now better identified in this book.

Languages : en
Pages : 151

Book Description
Biocompatibility of Dental Biomaterials details and examines the fundamentals of biocompatibililty, also including strategies to combat it. As biomaterials used in the mouth are subject to different problems than those associated with the general in vivo environment, this book examines these challenges, presenting the latest research and forward-thinking strategies. - Explores the fundamentals of dental biomaterials and their compatibility - Presents a thorough review of material specific issues

Biocompatibility of Dental Materials

Biocompatibility of Dental Materials PDF Author: Gottfried Schmalz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540777822
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 392

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive and scientifically based overview of the biocompatibility of dental materials. Up-to-date concepts of biocompatibility assessment are presented, as well as information on almost all material groups used in daily dentistry practice. Furthermore, special topics of clinical relevance (e.g,, environmental and occupational hazards and the diagnosis of adverse effects) are covered. The book will: improve the reader’s ability to critically analyze information provided by manufacturers supply a better understanding of the biocompatibility of single material groups, which will help the reader choose the most appropriate materials for any given patient and thus prevent adverse effects from developing provide insights on how to conduct objective, matter-of-fact discussions with patients about the materials to be used in dental procedures advise readers, through the use of well-documented concepts, on how to treat patients who claim adverse effects from dental materials feature clinical photographs that will serve as a reference when analyzing clinical symptoms, such as oral mucosa reactions.

BiodentineTM

BiodentineTM PDF Author: Imad About
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030809323
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 233

Book Description
This book is a comprehensive guide to BiodentineTM, an innovative biocompatible and bioactive material based on pure tricalcium silicate that can permanently replace dentin and can also serve as a temporary enamel substitute. Although BiodentineTM has been widely used across the world for the past decade, this is the first book to be devoted to its properties, interactions with the soft and hard tissues, and its multiple clinical applications. The coverage encompasses applications in primary and permanent teeth, in specialties as diverse as restorative dentistry, endodontics, paediatric dentistry, dental traumatology, and prosthetic dentistry. BiodentineTM application both in vital pulp therapy and endodontic procedures is illustrated and clinical step by step protocols are provided. The book provides a detailed update on BiodentineTM use to preserve the pulp vitality in direct/indirect pulp capping, pulpotomy and irreversible pulpitis treatment. It also details BiodentineTM use for non-vital teeth treatment in indications such as root/furcation perforation repair, apexification as well as in regenerative endodontic procedures. BiodentineTM: Properties and Clinical Applications will be a rich source of guidance and information for all dentists as well as dental students and academics.

Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations PDF Author: Vesna Miletic
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319609610
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.

Adhesives

Adhesives PDF Author: Anna Rudawska
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9535127837
Category : Science
Languages : en
