Annual economic damage assessments in the US alone are conservatively estimated at $236.5 billion. Special considerations concern an individual's limitations in working with formulas, such as those in equations, chemical compositions, spreadsheets, and algorithms. The visual process of reading a formula is different from reading a word. Enhanced visual skills are needed, which are not elaborated upon in this paper. The transformation to a digital age demands a transformation in vision diagnostics, treatments, and technologies. The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility.
