It is not possible to mention the name ‘Yowie’ [or Bigfoot] without remembering the name of the man responsible for bringing these mysterious and elusive beings to public attention both throughout Australia and the world. Mentioning the Yowie without Rex Gilroy is like describing Egypt without the pyramids! Rex Gilroy or “Rex the Yowie Man” as he is known throughout Australia and overseas, has researched these primitive ancestors of ours for the past 55 years. He and his wife Heather operate the “Australiana Yowie Research Centre” [PO Box 202, Katoomba, NSW 2780; Phone 02 4782 3441] where he has amassed a large collection of footprint plaster casts of what he declared many years ago to be a relative of the North American ‘Bigfoot’ and other similar beings believed to live in southeast Asia and New Guinea. Rex Gilroy is a feld naturalist and historical researcher possessing the largest privately owned natural history collection in Australia. He is also the author of many books on the Yowie and mysterious animals including books on ancient civilization contacts with Australia and Australian UFOs [Unidentifed Flying Objects]. Bigfoot to Mothman

Bigfoot to Mothman PDF Author: Margo DeMello
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN:
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 249

Book Description
This one-volume encyclopedia introduces readers to the world's cryptids-those hidden or secret animals believed to exist at the margins of human society-including Bigfoot, Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, and the Mothman. Comprehensive in its scope, this book is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to know more about well-known creatures of myth and legend, such as the Chupacabra and the Jersey Devil, and discover lesser-known animals, such as the Bunyip of Australia and the Mamlambo of South Africa. Rather than purport to prove or deny the existence of these creatures, however, this volume classifies them within their respective cultural, historical, and social contexts, allowing readers to appreciate cryptids as cultural artifacts important to societies around the globe. Finally, this book goes beyond the study of the unknown to investigate who believes in cryptids, why they do, and why the study of cryptozoology is as much about understanding cryptids as it is about understanding ourselves.

The Yowie

The Yowie PDF Author: Tony Healy

Book Description
During the early colonial era, Australia's Aborigines often warned British settlers to beware of huge, ape-like creatures that lurked in the rugged mountains and deep forests of the island continent. Their people, they said, had been encountering the hairy horrors since time immemorial. They knew them by many names, including doolagarl, thoolagarl, jurrawarra, and tjangara. Soon the colonists, too, began to experience hair-raising encounters with the hulking, foul-smelling creatures, which they referred to as "Australian apes," "yahoos" or "youries." Today, they are generally referred to as yowies. The list of modern-day eyewitnesses includes zoologists, rangers, surveyors and members of the elite Special Air Service Regiment. This book chronicles the yowie saga from the pre-colonial era to the present day. It contains over 300 carefully documented eyewitness reports and a vast amount of other data, much of which suggests that the damnably elusive creatures really do exist. The authors also critically examine the many theories that have been put forward to explain - or explain away - Australia's most baffling zoological mystery. PAUL CROPPER became fascinated by the yowie mystery in 1976, when he uncovered several long- forgotten eyewitness reports in colonial-era newspapers. Although then only 14 years old, he began visiting the Blue Mountains, to the west of his home in Sydney, searching for proof of the creatures' existence. Canberra-based TONY HEALY, who had already become intrigued by the bigfoot/sasquatch phenomenon while working in Canada in 1969, also became involved in yowie research in the mid-1970s. Since 1981 they have collaborated on many projects, notably in co-authoring Out of the Shadows: Mystery Animals of Australia, which contained a lengthy chapter about the elusive yowie. Over the past 30 years they have searched for lake monsters, hairy giants, out-of-place big cats and other semi-legendary animals in Fiji, North America, the Bahamas, Iceland, Ireland, Great Britain, Nepal, Malaysia and in every state and territory of Australia."

Book Description
It's back! After 25 years, the comprehensive, fully documented exposition of Australian mystery animals - up-dated for all the developments which have taken place in the meantime.Unrecognized by science, bunyips, sea serpents, and yowies are declared to be myths, hoaxes, or misidentifications by unqualified witnesses with overactive imaginations. And yet . . .* The Colonial Museum once held a bunyip skull, and the animal continued to be reported by white settlers for a century and a half.* The navy was once called out to search Darwin Harbour for a sea serpent, and a team of scientists was flown onto a remote Tasmanian beach to investigate another monster.* Massive stock killings by "big cats" have sparked the interest of state parliaments.* A prominent politician was one of 20 witnesses to a giant ape in the Queensland bush.Whether you are a keen cryptozoologist or just have an interested, open mind, you will not be able to read this book without coming to the conclusion that Australia's hinterland and seas are the home of numerous large animals unknown to science.
