Numerical and Asymptotic Investigation of Structures of Hydrogen-air Diffusion Flames
Reduced Kinetic Mechanisms and Asymptotic Approximations for Methane-air Flames
Author: Mitchell D. Smooke
Publisher: Springer
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 264
Book Description
In this comprehensive text a systematic numerical and analytical treatment of the procedures for reducing complicated systems to a simplified reaction mechanism is presented. The results of applying the reduced reaction mechanism to a one-dimensional laminar flame are discussed. A set of premixed and non-premixed methane-air flames with simplified transport and skeletal chemistry are employed as test problems that are used later on to evaluate the results and assumptions in reduced reaction networks. The first four chapters form a short tutorial on the procedures used in formulating the test problems and in reducing reaction mechanisms by applying steady-state and partial-equilibrium approximations. The final six chapters discuss various aspects of the reduced chemistry problem for premixed and nonpremixed combustion.

Studies on High Pressure and Unsteady Flame Phenomena
Author: Chung K. Law
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Combustion
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The objective of the present program is to study the structure and response of steady and unsteady laminar premixed and nonpremixed flames in reduced and elevated pressure environments through (a) non-intrusive experimentation, (b) computational simulation using detailed flame and kinetic codes, and (c) asymptotic analysis with reduced kinetic mechanisms. During the reporting period progress has been made in the following projects: (1) a theoretical and experimental study of unsteady diffusion flames; (2) a computational and experimental study of hydrogen/air diffusion flames at sub- and super-atmospheric pressures; (3) an asymptotic analysis of the structure of premixed flames with volumetric heat loss; (4) asymptotic analyses of ignition in the supersonic hydrogen/air mixing layer with reduced mechanisms; (5) a new numerical algorithm for generating the ignition-extinction S-curves. A total of three reprints are appended.

Advances in Chemical Propulsion
Author: Gabriel D. Roy
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420040685
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 553
Book Description
Written by the scientists who performed the research, this book reports on the progress achieved by the outstanding team of researchers participating in the ONR Propulsion Program. It covers all aspects of the combustion process, from chemical synthesis, reaction pathways of the fuel, and combustor performance to the reduction of emissions, thrust vectoring, and control. The chapter authors discuss the relevant issues, describe their approach and results, and explain how the findings can be extended to practical applications. Richly illustrated and carefully edited for clarity, uniformity, and readability, this book offers a comprehensive survey of the field, from pre- to post-combustion.
