For this, as for writing a note by way of preface to the list of his own works, my best thanks are due to Mr. Swim. My thanks are also due to Messrs. Allen and unwin, to Messrs. Secker, to Mr. Howard hannay, and to Mr. C. Millard, for information or for permission to examine certain books. Contributions to periodicals are not included in these lists. In the matter of pagination, the pages given in brackets are those of which the printers have taken no account in the numbering of the pages of the book which is being described; they do not include end-papers. Measurements, which are those of the page and not of the binding, are given to the nearest eighth of an inch. Finally, these bibliographies only aim at completeness as far as first editions, printed in the British Isles, are concerned.
