Social Determinants of Health and Knowledge About Hiv/Aids Transmission Among Adolescents

Social Determinants of Health and Knowledge About Hiv/Aids Transmission Among Adolescents PDF Author: Godwin C. Osakwe MBA MPH PhD
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1532065647
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 84

Book Description
Godwin C. Osakwe draws on his academic knowledge and painstaking research to determine if there’s a link between knowledge and transmission of HIV/AIDS among youths in this important study. The author, who holds a doctorate degree in public health and a business management degree, shares broad information and engages in a comprehensive review of the origin of the disease. Focusing on Nigeria, he examines a multitude of factors that may play a role in the transmission of HIV, such as adolescent health care, demographics, social factors, and more. The goal of the study is to lessen HIV transmission by increasing knowledge about the disease. Governmental and nongovernmental organizations can use its findings to influence childhood health-care improvements and advance education to help reduce or eradicate HIV/AIDS transmission. With adolescents making up 23 percent of Nigeria’s population—and given this group is likely to engage in risky behavior—there’s never been a more critical time to strive to prevent the transmission of this devastating and, still, deadly virus.

Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship Policy

Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship Policy PDF Author: David B. Audretsch
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 1847206794
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 251

Book Description
This book is a well written and handy source for readers. Additionally, it provides an overview of current issues relevant to the development of entrepreneurial policy, which is based on interesting case studies across a number of nations. . . Dessy Irawati, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research What is new in the world is the need to understand business dynamics; the entry, exit and growth of firms in the economy. This dynamic firm structure, as opposed to the static firm structure that dominated past thinking, has spurred an outpouring of research. The heart of the issue is that while many have identified the importance of business dynamics (entry and exit) we have only recently taken a closer look at the ecological system in which some companies must die for others to thrive. Entrepreneurs are the predators of this system. Public policy in an entrepreneurial economy (dynamic) must limit the forces that prevent firm exit and foster the forces that promote firm entry. This book makes an important contribution to the debate. Zoltan J. Acs, George Mason University, US and Max Planck Institute of Economics, Germany This unique Handbook provides a solid foundation for essential study in the nascent field of entrepreneurship policy research. This foundation is initially developed via the exploration of two significant propositions underpinning the nature of entrepreneurship policy research. The first is that entrepreneurship has emerged as a bona fide focus of public policy, particularly with respect to economic growth and employment creation. The second is that neither scholars nor policy makers are presently equipped to understand the public policy role for entrepreneurship. The contributors experienced scholars, specialist researchers and dynamic policy makers thus grapple with novel questions of considerable policy relevance that few have previously posed. The Handbook therefore provides some of the first crucial, systematic analyses of important issues, and key questions to be raised in order to move entrepreneurship policy forward are also presented. Written by academics and practitioners drawing examples from both North America and Europe, this stimulating new Handbook is a prerequisite for students, scholars and practitioners in the incipient world of entrepreneurship policy.

GOVERNANCE AND POVERTY REDUCTION

GOVERNANCE AND POVERTY REDUCTION PDF Author: AMITA SINGH
Publisher: PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.
ISBN: 8120336984
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 346

Book Description
Poverty reduction in South Asia is a precondition for sustaining any form of reforms in governance. The new public management reforms which started in South Asia from Sri Lanka taking the initiative in 1977–78 have been a decisive break from the previously practised State driven protectionist system. Investment in the region has been rising and even per capita income has shown some increase, yet the state has not been able to lead these reforms appropriately and efficiently. Thus poverty has not been reduced, ordinary people continue to languish under government programmes and the socially excluded remain outside the mainstream decision making bodies. Governance in South Asia faces the single most important challenge of poverty reduction which continues to blunt and disfigure capacity, self esteem and service delivery system to the poor. This book attempts to bring out microlevel studies from many regions in South Asia to address issues of entrepreneurship, knowledge and professionalism. As an initiator of the idea on developing a critique to the straightjacketed ‘best practice’ research, this book questions the standard practice in evaluating administrative reforms as not being the true base for knowledge. Administrators need to balance capacity and control in every implementation programme. Confining to the knowledge of ‘best practices’ may conceal enormous amount of information from the ‘less than best’ practices which may be necessary to sustain good initiatives of public managers. This book highlights areas of active networking, partnerships and collaborations amongst state and non-state bodies, NGOs and specialist Science and Technical Organizations. The true nature of governance is explained and demonstrated through the processes which otherwise pass off undetected in macro-understanding of governance.
