Teaching Entrepreneurship

Teaching Entrepreneurship PDF Author: Peter van der Sijde
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3790820385
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 133

Book Description
“Entrepreneurship that is something you learn in practice”. “Entreprene- ship is learning by doing”. This is often heard when you tell others that you teach entrepreneurship, but maybe entrepreneurship is more “doing by learning”. Nevertheless, in entrepreneurship practice and theory are int- woven. For this reason the Learning Cycle introduced by Kolb (1984) is an often used teaching approach. According to this Learning Cycle there are four phases (“cycle”) that are connected: 1. Concrete experience (“doing”, “experiencing”) 2. Reflection (“reflecting on the experience”) 3. Conceptualization (“learning from the experience”) 4. Experimentation (“bring what you learned into practice”) In teaching you can enter this cycle at any stage, depending on the students. And that brings us to the different types of students. Based on Hills et al. (1998) a plethora of student groups can be distinguished (of course this list is not exhaustive), e.g: Ph.D. students, who do a doctoral programme in Entrepreneurship; the emphasis is on theory/science. DBA students, who do a doctoral programme that is, in comparison to the Ph.D. more practice oriented. MBA students, who take entrepreneurship as one of the courses in their programme. Most of the time MBA students are mature students, who after some work experience return to the university; the programme is practice oriented.

Entrepreneurship Education

Entrepreneurship Education PDF Author: Sukanlaya Sawang
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030488020
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 149

Book Description
This book explores how entrepreneurship education can be embedded throughout the learner’s lifetime. To date, entrepreneurship education has tended to begin on an ad hoc basis at the higher education level: some institutions offer it as an elective or compulsory course, while others offer it as a degree program. In most countries, entrepreneurship has not yet been widely adopted in the core curriculum, and formal entrepreneurship education is almost exclusively offered to young learners. In addition to presenting critical views on who can benefit from entrepreneurship education, including children/schoolchildren, students in higher education and older people, the book proposes a model of holistic entrepreneurship education to promote a lifelong learning journey for educators and learners alike.

Educating Entrepreneurs

Educating Entrepreneurs PDF Author: Dafna Kariv
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 135100798X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 379

Book Description
As entrepreneurship programs proliferate—from classes in higher education to incubators, accelerators, open innovation platforms, and innovation factories—our understanding of the advantages and challenges of different modes of learning becomes increasingly obscured. In Educating Entrepreneurs, Kariv provides an impressively broad and thorough overview of the field of entrepreneurship education, along with practical tools for students to be able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the different options that exist, as well as for these programs’ developers and managing teams to be able to plan and manage such processes. Examining these programs, which are found both within and outside of academia, along with insights into their challenges and opportunities, should help students grasp the entrepreneurship education field, its goals, target audience, and ecosystem involvement. Kariv supplements this comprehensive evaluation with case studies and examples that tie the theory to practical applications. Students can read about contemporary ventures, such as Y Combinators, Techstars, and SOSA, giving them concrete examples to relate to. Interviews with program stakeholders around the world complete the view, with an exploration of the cultural and country-based dynamics related to programs developed in specific countries. Being both thorough and informative, this book will serve students and faculty of entrepreneurship courses, as well as practitioners looking to understand their entrepreneurship education options.
