Design of Steel Structures

Design of Steel Structures PDF Author: Elias G. Abu-Saba
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461520797
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 404

Book Description
This book is intended for classroom teaching in architectural and civil engineering at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Although it has been developed from lecture notes given in structural steel design, it can be useful to practicing engineers. Many of the examples presented in this book are drawn from the field of design of structures. Design of Steel Structures can be used for one or two semesters of three hours each on the undergraduate level. For a two-semester curriculum, Chapters 1 through 8 can be used during the first semester. Heavy emphasis should be placed on Chapters 1 through 5, giving the student a brief exposure to the consideration of wind and earthquakes in the design of buildings. With the new federal requirements vis a vis wind and earthquake hazards, it is beneficial to the student to have some under standing of the underlying concepts in this field. In addition to the class lectures, the instructor should require the student to submit a term project that includes the complete structural design of a multi-story building using standard design procedures as specified by AISC Specifications. Thus, the use of the AISC Steel Construction Manual is a must in teaching this course. In the second semester, Chapters 9 through 13 should be covered. At the undergraduate level, Chapters 11 through 13 should be used on a limited basis, leaving the student more time to concentrate on composite construction and built-up girders.

Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel–Concrete Composite Bridges

Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel–Concrete Composite Bridges PDF Author: Ehab Ellobody
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 0124173039
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 683

Book Description
In recent years, bridge engineers and researchers are increasingly turning to the finite element method for the design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges. However, the complexity of the method has made the transition slow. Based on twenty years of experience, Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges provides structural engineers and researchers with detailed modeling techniques for creating robust design models. The book's seven chapters begin with an overview of the various forms of modern steel and steel–concrete composite bridges as well as current design codes. This is followed by self-contained chapters concerning: nonlinear material behavior of the bridge components, applied loads and stability of steel and steel–concrete composite bridges, and design of steel and steel–concrete composite bridge components. - Constitutive models for construction materials including material non-linearity and geometric non-linearity - The mechanical approach including problem setup, strain energy, external energy and potential energy), mathematics behind the method - Commonly available finite elements codes for the design of steel bridges - Explains how the design information from Finite Element Analysis is incorporated into Building information models to obtain quantity information, cost analysis

Seeing and Touching Structural Concepts

Seeing and Touching Structural Concepts PDF Author: Tianjian Ji
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482288451
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
The pioneering website www.structuralconcepts.org, by Tianjian Ji and Adrian Bell, goes back to basics and explains in detail the basic principles of structural concepts and how they relate to the real world. Following on from and expanding upon the website, comes this book. Essential for the civil engineering student, it examines the concepts in closer detail with formulae and technical terminology, while remaining grounded in the website's practical approach. With hundreds of photographs and diagrams, you are encouraged to visualize each concept in turn and to understand how it applies to every day life.

Book Description
Modern Trends in Research on Steel, Aluminium and Composite Structures includes papers presented at the 14th International Conference on Metal Structures 2021 (ICMS 2021, Poznań, Poland, 16-18 June 2021). The 14th ICMS summarised a few years’ theoretical, numerical and experimental research on steel, aluminium and composite structures, and presented new concepts. This book contains six plenary lectures and all the individual papers presented during the Conference. Seven plenary lectures were presented at the Conference, including "Research developments on glass structures under extreme loads", Parhp3D – The parallel MPI/openMPI implementation of the 3D hp-adaptive FE code", "Design of beam-to-column steel-concrete composite joints: from Eurocodes and beyond", "Stainless steel structures – research, codification and practice", "Testing, modelling and design of bolted joints – effect of size, structural properties, integrity and robustness", "Design of hybrid beam-to-column joints between RHS tubular columns and I-section beams" and "Selected aspects of designing the cold-formed steel structures". The individual contributions delivered by authors covered a wide variety of topics: – Advanced analysis and direct methods of design, – Cold-formed elements and structures, – Composite structures, – Engineering structures, – Joints and connections, – Structural stability and integrity, – Structural steel, metallurgy, durability and behaviour in fire.
