Book Description
In the last two decades the research activity in the field of two phase flow and heat transfer has seen a continuing upward trend. Efforts in the development of new instruments, experimental techniques and analysis have brought forth new insights into the phenomena. The papers compiled in this volume reinforce this observation. These papers are to be presented in three sessions and cover a wide spectrum of research interests. Each of the sessions has seven papers. The first session contains papers on bubble condensation, oscillation frequency of bubbles condensing in a pool and growth of bubbles in a time dependent pressure field. There also are papers on dry out in a bottom heated bed of suspended particles, transition boiling on a vertical surface and liquid solid contacts in transition boiling. The last paper in this session compares results from several correlations for heat and mass transfer under entrained flow conditions. The papers in the second session are on nuclear reactor thermal hydraulic scaling criteria, unsteady two phase natural convection and on critical flow during flashing of subcooled liquid in nozzles. There are also two other papers on critical two phase flows and one each on analysis of density -wave oscillations and effect of sub cooling on dynamic instabilities in two phase flows. Most of the papers in the third session are on heat exchangers. The first paper deals with a fast running numerical method for solving two fluid equations in two dimensions and an application to flooding in certain nuclear reactor geometries. In the second paper crevice boiling in prototype steam generators is studies experimentally. The third paper deals with shift in the point of net vapor generation during transient flow boiling in a horizontal channel. The overall thermal hydraulic phenomena in horizontal steam generator pipes is studied in the fourth paper while the predictions of convective boiling heat transfer in serrated plate fin heat exchangers are made in the fifth paper. The last two papers deal with condensation in horizontal passages. The papers contained in this volume represent a good balance between basic studies and applications. The body of knowledge contained in these papers suggests a welcome shift from purely correlative approach to amore mechanistic approach. With this it seems we have moved one step closer to reality in describing the phase change processes, interfacial heat and mass transfer and various hydrodynamic aspects of two phase flow. We wish to express our appreciation of the efforts and contributions of the authors and the reviewers.

Multiphase Flow Dynamics 3
Author: Nikolay Ivanov Kolev
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642213723
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 683
Book Description
Multi-phase flows are part of our natural environment such as tornadoes, typhoons, air and water pollution and volcanic activities as well as part of industrial technology such as power plants, combustion engines, propulsion systems, or chemical and biological industry. The industrial use of multi-phase systems requires analytical and numerical strategies for predicting their behavior. .In its fourth extended edition the successful monograph package “Multiphase Flow Daynmics” contains theory, methods and practical experience for describing complex transient multi-phase processes in arbitrary geometrical configurations, providing a systematic presentation of the theory and practice of numerical multi-phase fluid dynamics. In the present third volume methods for describing of the thermal interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided. In addition a large number of valuable experiments is collected and predicted using the methods introduced in this monograph. In this way the accuracy of the methods is revealed to the reader. This fourth edition includes various updates, extensions, improvements and corrections. "The literature in the field of multiphase flows is numerous. Therefore, it is very important to have a comprehensive and systematic overview including useful numerical methods. The volumes have the character of a handbook and accomplish this function excellently. The models are described in detail and a great number of comprehensive examples and some cases useful for testing numerical solutions are included. These two volumes are very useful for scientists and practicing engineers in the fields of technical thermodynamics, chemical engineering, fluid mechanics, and for mathematicians with interest in technical problems. Besides, they can give a good overview of the dynamically developing, complex field of knowledge to students. This monograph is highly recommended,” BERND PLATZER, ZAAM In the present third volume methods for describing of the thermal interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided.
