Advanced Technologies for Security Applications

Advanced Technologies for Security Applications PDF Author: Claudio Palestini
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9402420215
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 312

Book Description
Technology has been the spark that ignited NATO’s interest and commitment to scientific advancement during its history. Since its creation, the Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme has been instrumental to NATO’s commitment to innovation, science and technological advancement. During the years, SPS has demonstrated a flexible and versatile approach to practical scientific cooperation, and has promoted knowledge-sharing, building capacity, and projected stability outside NATO territory. The priorities addressed by the SPS Programme are aligned with NATO’s strategic objectives, and aim to tackle emerging security challenges that require dynamic adaptation for the prevention and mitigation of risks. By addressing priorities such as advanced technologies, hybrid threats, and counter-terrorism, the Programme deals with new, contemporary challenges. On 17-18 September 2019, the SPS Programme gathered at the KU Leuven University a wide number of researchers from a selection of on-going and recently closed SPS projects in the field of security-related advanced technologies for a “Cluster Workshop on Advanced Technologies”. The workshop covered, in particular, the following scientific domains: communication systems, advanced materials, sensors and detectors, and unmanned and autonomous systems. This book provides an overview on how these projects have contributed to the development of new technologies and innovative solutions and recommendations for future actions in the NATO SPS programme.

Backflash

Backflash PDF Author: Richard Stark
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 0226770605
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 309

Book Description
After the publication of Butcher's Moon in 1974, Donald Westlake said, "Richard Stark proved to me that he had a life of his own by simply disappearing. He was gone." And readers waited. But nothing bad is truly gone forever, and Parker's as bad as they come. According to Westlake, one day in 1997, "suddenly, he came back from the dead, with a chalky prison pallor"--and the novels that followed showed that neither Parker nor Stark had lost a step. Backflash finds Parker checking out the scene on a Hudson River gambling boat. Parker's no fan of either relaxation or risk, however, so you can be sure he's playing with house money--and he's willing to do anything to tilt the odds in his favor. Featuring a great cast of heisters, a striking setting, and a new introduction by Westlake's close friend and writing partner, Lawrence Block, this classic Parker adventure deserve a place of honor on any crime fan's bookshelf.

Gas Insulated Substations

Gas Insulated Substations PDF Author: Hermann J. Koch
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118570723
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 490

Book Description
Comprehensive reference covering all aspects of gas insulated substations including basic principles, technology, use & application, design, specification, testing and ownership issues This book provides an overview on the particular development steps of gas insulated high-voltage switchgear, and is based on the information given with the editor’s tutorial. The theory is kept low only as much as it is needed to understand gas insulated technology, with the main focus of the book being on delivering practical application knowledge. It discusses some introductory and advanced aspects in the meaning of applications. The start of the book presents the theory of Gas Insulated Technology, and outlines reliability, design, safety, grounding and bonding, and factors for choosing GIS. The third chapter presents the technology, covering the following in detail: manufacturing, specification, instrument transformers, Gas Insulated Bus, and the assembly process. Next, the book goes into control and monitoring, which covers local control cabinet, bay controller, control schemes, and digital communication. Testing is explained in the middle of the book before installation and energization. Importantly, operation and maintenance is discussed. This chapter includes information on repair, extensions, retrofit or upgrade, and overloading. Finally applications are covered along with concepts of layout, typical layouts, mixed technology substations, and then other topics such as life cycle assessment, environmental impact, and project management. A one-stop, complete reference text on gas insulated substations (GIS), large-capacity and long-distance electricity transmission, which are of increasing importance in the power industry today Details advanced and basic material, accessible for both existing GIS users and those planning to adopt the technology Discusses both the practical and theoretical aspects of GIS Written by acknowledged GIS experts who have been involved in the development of the technology from the start

F2- Future Fuel

F2- Future Fuel PDF Author: Chandan Kumar Bhatt
Publisher: Xoffencerpublication
ISBN: 8119534999
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 87

Book Description
In present word of industrialization with so many industries and millions of automobiles running on ic engines with their ever-increasing numbers all running on petroleum based products are facing a major threat of extinction of these petroleum reservoirs. Internal Combus on Engine (ICE or IC Engine): An internal combus on engine, somemes referred to as an ICE or IC engine, is a kind of heat engine in which fuel is burnt with the aid of an oxidant, usually air, in a combus on chamber that is an essen al part of the working fluid flow circuit. The expansion of the hot, high-pressure gases produced during combus on acts directly on a part of an internal combus on engine. In most cases, the force is received by a rotor (Wankel engine), gas turbine blades (piston engine), nozzles (jet engine) or pistons (piston engine). This force transforms chemical energy into kine c energy, which drives, moves, or powers whatever the engine is a ached to. It moves the component over a distance to do this. Therefore, there is need of some alternative fuel which can replace petroleum-based fuels in an effective manner and that fuel should also be available in abundance and can b used in existing type of ic engines without much modification work. On exploring our possibilities for an alternative fuel for ic engines we can easily vote for Hydrogen Gas Based Engines. These types of engines are highly efficient in nature and do not require much modification work. One biggest limitation of Hydrogen Gas Based Engine is low volumetric efficiency, but we can overcome this with the use of oxygen enriched air and also with pure moist oxygen. This step will also help in reducing emission related problems associated with such type of engines.
