Book Description
The B{sub c}{sup ±} meson is observed through the decay B{sub c}{sup ±} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup ±}, in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4 fb−1 recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. A signal of 108 {+-} 15 candidates is observed, with a significance that exceeds 8[sigma]. The mass of the B{sub c}{sup {+-}} meson is measured to be 6275.6 {+-} 2.9(stat.) {+-} 2.5(syst.) MeV/c2.

B Decays

Book Description
This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Study of B Meson Decays to Ppbarh Final States

Study of B Meson Decays to Ppbarh Final States PDF Author: Tetiana B. Hryn'ova

Book Description
B mesons are unique among well-established non-quarkonium mesons in their ability to decay into baryons. Baryonic B decays offer a wide range of interesting areas of study: they can be used to test our theoretical understanding of rare decay processes involving baryons, search for direct CP violation and study low-energy QCD. This thesis presents measurements of branching fractions and a study of the decay dynamics of the charmless three-body decays of B meson into p{bar p}h final states, where h = {pi}{sup +}, K{sup +}, K{sub S}{sup 0}, K*{sup 0} or K*{sup +}. With a sample of 232 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} events collected with the BaBar detector, we report the first observation of the B {yields} p{bar p}K*{sup 0} decay, and provide improved measurements of branching fractions of the other modes. The distribution of the three final-state particles is of particular interest since it provides dynamical information on the possible presence of exotic intermediate states such as the hypothetical pentaquark states {Theta}*{sup ++} and {Theta}{sup +}in the m{sub pK{sup +}} and m{sub pK{sub S}{sup 0}} spectra, respectively, or glueball states (such as the tensor glueball f{sub J}(2220)) in the m{sub p{bar p}} spectrum. No evidence for exotic states is found and upper limits on the branching fractions are set. An enhancement at low p{bar p} mass is observed in all the B {yields} p{bar p}h modes, and its shape is compared between the decay modes and with the shape of the time-like proton form factor. A Dalitz plot asymmetry in B {yields} p{bar p}K{sup +} mode suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this decay and disfavors the possibility that the low mass p{bar p} enhancement originates from the presence of a resonance below threshold (such as the recently seen baryonium candidate at 1835 MeV/c{sup 2}). We also identify decays of the type B {yields} X{sub c{bar c}}h {yields} p{bar p}h, where h = K{sup +}, K{sub S}{sup 0}, K*{sup 0} or K*{sup +}, and X{sub c{bar c}} = {eta}{sub c} or J/{psi}. In particular, we report on the evidence of the B {yields} {eta}{sub c}K*{sup +} decay and provide a measurement of the width of {eta}{sub c}.

Measurement of the Dipion Mass Spectrum in the Decay X(3872) [right Arrow] J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− at the CDFII Experiment

Book Description
We present a measurement of the dipion mass spectrum in the decay X(3872) [right arrow] J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− using a 360 pb-1 sample of pp collisions at av [square root]s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermnilab Tevatron Collider. As a benchmark, we also extract the dipion mass distribution for [psi] (2s) [right arrow] J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− decay. The X(3872) dipion mass spectrum is compared to QCD multipole expansion predictions for various charmonium states, as well as to the hypothesis [right arrow] J/ [psi] po. We find that the measured spectrum is compatible with 3S1 charmonium decaying to J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− - and with the X(3872) - J/po hypothesis. There is, however, no 3S1 charmonium state available for assignment to the X(3872). The multipole expansion calculations for 1P1 and 3DJ states are in clear disagreement with the X(3872) data. For the [psi] (2S) the data agrees well with previously published results and to multipole expansion calculations for 3S1 charmonium. Other, non-charmonium, models for the X(3872) are described too. We conclude that since the dipion mass spectrum for X(3872) is compatible with J/pO hypothesis, the X(3872) should be C-positive. This conclusion is supported by recent results from Belle Collaboration which observed X(3872) -+ J/7y decay. We argue that if X(3872) is a charmonium, then it should be either ... state, decaying into J/ [psi] [pi]+ [pi]− in violation of isospin conservation. A non-charmonium assignment, such as DD* molecule, is also quite possible.

Book Description
The author presents measurements of radiative B meson decays to the final states Ks0[pi]0[gamma] and K[Phi][gamma] based on data collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. In a data sample of 467 million B$\bar{B}$ pairs, the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0 2!Ks0[pi]0[gamma] decays is measured in two regions of Ks0-[pi]0 invariant mass. In the K* region, 0.8

Measurement of the B±c Meson Lifetime Using B±c2!J/[Psi] + L± + X Decays

Measurement of the B±c Meson Lifetime Using B±c2!J/[Psi] + L± + X Decays PDF Author:

Pages : 301

Book Description
This thesis describes a measurement of the average proper decay time of the B±c mesons, the ground state of bottom and charm quark bound states. The lifetime measurement is carried out in the decay modes B±c → J/[Psi] + e± + X and B±c → J/[Psi] + [mu]± + X, where the J/[Psi] decays as J/[Psi] → [mu]+[mu]- and the X are unmeasured particles such as ve or v[mu]. The data are collect by the CDF II detector which measures the properties of particles created in √s = 1.96 TeV p$\bar{p}$ collisions delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron. This measurement uses ~ 1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. The measured average proper decay time of B±c mesons, [tau] = 0.475-0.049+0.053(stat.) ± 0.018(syst.) ps, is competitive with the most precise measurements in the world and confirms previous measurements and theoretical predictions.
