The Croatian-Dutch architect duo of Branimir Medic and Pero Puljiz have a working method that could be described as cleverly linking and rearranging elements that just fall short of being identical. By these means they convincingly create new forms and surprising spaces. It is a method that yields buildings that are minimalist, and at the same time, dynamic. Indeed, their body of work can best be described as dynamic minimalist. Educated as architects at Zagreb University, the two continued their studies at the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands. After winning first and second prize in the Dutch Prix de Rome in the mid 1990s, the two decided not to establish their own office as was customary, but instead to become partners at de Architekten Cie. in Amsterdam. From one day to the next, they went from being fledgling architects to co-directors of a major architectural firm. Medic and Puljiz often follow a similarly individual path in their designs. Different Repetitions shows in words and images the versatility but most of all their cohesion, from the Acanthus office building in Amsterdam to the Cultural Centre in Tianjin, China.

Between 2007 and 2012 the Department for Underwater Archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute from Zagreb and the Department of Humanistic Studies of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice collaborated in the recording, underwater excavation and analysis of the unusually well-preserved wreck of a 16th century Venetian merchantman in the Svetti Pavao shallow off the southern shore of the island of Mljet, Croatia. The shipwreck preserved many personal possessions of the crew as well as a number of bronze artillery pieces and the remains of a cargo of luxury and richly decorated ceramic material from Iznik and other oriental workshops. Although the excavation is not complete, this volume presents the results of the project so far. The methodological and technical aspects of the underwater investigation of the site, mainly by photogrammetry, are described; the historical and archaeological context of navigation in the late Medieval period in the eastern Mediterranean discussed; and the recovered artefacts described and catalogued in detail, together with the remains of the ship and its equipment that, because of depth and of problems of conservation, have been left in situ. The conservation and restoration of the finds are described in an appendix.

The work of Herman Hertzberger is the subject of wide international esteem. 1991 first saw publication of Hertzberger's Lessons for Students in Architecture, an elaborated version of lectures he had given since 1973 at Delft University of Technology. Space and the Architect is the second book written by Hertzberger. It charts the backgrounds to his work of recent years and the ideas informing it, drawing on a wide spectrum of subjects and designs by artists, precursors, past masters and colleagues, though with his own work persistently present as a reference. Space is its principal theme, physical space but also the mental or intellectual regions the architect calls upon during the process of designing.
