Suite à l'acquisition en juin 2016 de la division Bayer diabetes care par Panasonic health care et KKR - fond d'investissements - Ascensia diabetes care a été créée. Il commercialise des dispositifs médicaux, de la gamme Contour®, dédiés à l'autosurveillance glycémique. L'autosurveillance se traduit par un contrôle continu des glycémies par le patient. Elle s'effectue grâce à une goutte de sang prélevée au bout du doigt, placée sur une bandelette réactive, elle-même insérée dans un lecteur de glycémie, qui donne le résultat. L'autosurveillance glycémique s'effectue majoritairement dans le cadre de la prise en charge du diabète. Le marché de l'autosurveillance glycémique est en pleine croissance de par la progression diabète dans le monde. En effet, le nombre de patients diabétiques ne cesse d'augmenter et est estimé à plus de 250 millions en 2025.
