This report describes procedures for analyzing hydrogen isotope ratios. Hydrogen is separated from liquid water or soil water by reacting the water with heated uranium. An isotope-ratio mass spectrometer determines the atom % deuterium in the hydrogen to a precision of + or - 0.0075.
