Real-Time Automatic Emotion Recognition from Speech

Real-Time Automatic Emotion Recognition from Speech PDF Author: Thurid Vogt
Publisher: Sudwestdeutscher Verlag Fur Hochschulschriften AG
ISBN: 9783838125459
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 220

Book Description
Recently, the importance of reacting to the emotional state of a user has been generally accepted in the field of human-computer interaction and especially speech has received increased focus as a modality from which to automatically deduct information on emotion. So far, mainly not very application-oriented offline studies based on previously recorded and annotated databases with emotional speech were conducted. However, demands of online analysis differ from that of offline analysis, in particular, conditions are more challenging and less predictable. Therefore, this book investigates real-time automatic emotion recognition from acoustic features of speech in several experiments for suitable audio segmenation, feature extraction and classification algorithms. Results lead to the implementation of the Open Source online emotion recognition framework EmoVoice. A further emphasis was set on multimodality and the use of speech emotion recognition in applications.

Affect and Emotion in Human-Computer Interaction

Affect and Emotion in Human-Computer Interaction PDF Author: Christian Peter
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540850996
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 250

Book Description
Affect and emotion play an important role in our everyday lives: They are present whatever we do, wherever we are, and wherever we go, without us being aware of them for much of the time. When it comes to interaction, be it with humans, technology, or humans via technology, we suddenly become more aware of emotion, either by seeing the other’s emotional expression, or by not getting an emotional response while anticipating one. Given this, it seems only sensible to explore affect and emotion in human-computer interaction, to investigate the underlying principles, to study the role they play, to develop methods to quantify them, and to finally build applications that make use of them. This is the research field for which, over ten years ago, Rosalind Picard coined the phrase "affective computing". The present book provides an account of the latest work on a variety of aspects related to affect and emotion in human-technology interaction. It covers theoretical issues, user experience and design aspects as well as sensing issues, and reports on a number of affective applications that have been developed in recent years.

Emotion Recognition in Continuous Mandarin Chinese Speech

Emotion Recognition in Continuous Mandarin Chinese Speech PDF Author: Jun-Heng Yeh
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783848443932
Category : Chinese language
Languages : en
Pages : 184

Book Description
In this work, 14 emotions, including 6 full-brown emotions: anger, boredom, fear, happiness, neutrality, and sadness, 8 underlying emotions: anxiety, despair, disgust, gratefulness, love, praise, shame, and surprise, are explored for emotion recognition study using speech processing and pattern recognition methods in the emotional space theory. A new emotional corpus, Mandarin Chinese Emotional Corpus 2010 (MCEC2010), is built up by 34 professional voice actors/actresses. This corpus consists of 19,136 short utterances recorded by voice actors/actresses and 472,017 emotional annotations labeled by 26 annotators who didn t participate in the voice collection. And all emotional expression of segments will be mapped into the PAD (Pleasure-Arousal-Dominance) emotional space. By this visualizing presentation, it can not only quantify different emotional expressions in the utterance, but observe the gradual changes of different emotional expressions during dialogue. I hope that the content of this book can improve your knowledge of speech processing and emotion recognition.

Emotion Recognition using Speech Features

Emotion Recognition using Speech Features PDF Author: K. Sreenivasa Rao
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461451434
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 134

Book Description
“Emotion Recognition Using Speech Features” provides coverage of emotion-specific features present in speech. The author also discusses suitable models for capturing emotion-specific information for distinguishing different emotions. The content of this book is important for designing and developing natural and sophisticated speech systems. In this Brief, Drs. Rao and Koolagudi lead a discussion of how emotion-specific information is embedded in speech and how to acquire emotion-specific knowledge using appropriate statistical models. Additionally, the authors provide information about exploiting multiple evidences derived from various features and models. The acquired emotion-specific knowledge is useful for synthesizing emotions. Features includes discussion of: • Global and local prosodic features at syllable, word and phrase levels, helpful for capturing emotion-discriminative information; • Exploiting complementary evidences obtained from excitation sources, vocal tract systems and prosodic features in order to enhance the emotion recognition performance; • Proposed multi-stage and hybrid models for improving the emotion recognition performance. This brief is for researchers working in areas related to speech-based products such as mobile phone manufacturing companies, automobile companies, and entertainment products as well as researchers involved in basic and applied speech processing research.

Emotion Recognition Via Continuous Mandarin Speech

Emotion Recognition Via Continuous Mandarin Speech PDF Author: Tsang-Long Pao
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789537619152

Book Description
In recent years, emotion recognition is used in more and more applications. In this study, the emotion recognition from continuous speech is realized. Emotion recognition used in real world can be expected soon. The application in the call-centre can help the customer service personnel to better serve the customer. Endpoint detection is used to segment the continuous speech. The feature sets are 12 LPCCs and 20 MFCCs. The classifier is D-KNN with Fibonacci series weighting. The recognition accuracy of 83% is obtained. It is not easy to obtain the emotional corpus, especially continuous emotional corpus. In the future, it is necessary to get more emotional speech corpora, and hope to collect them in various forms, such as recording in a noisy environment or not so perfect sound quality. In real life, speeches do not always be recorded in a quiet environment or with high quality devices. The emotion recognition from continuous speech can be used in business, such as call centre. If the real-time system is going to be realized, the performance of the program must be improved. In other words, the programming language need to be changed to that can be used not only in personal computers but also in other devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) or mobile phones.

Emotion-Oriented Systems

Emotion-Oriented Systems PDF Author: Paolo Petta
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642151841
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 787

Book Description
Emotion pervades human life in general, and human communication in particular, and this sets information technology a challenge. Traditionally, IT has focused on allowing people to accomplish practical tasks efficiently, setting emotion to one side. That was acceptable when technology was a small part of life, but as technology and life become increasingly interwoven we can no longer ask people to suspend their emotional nature and habits when they interact with technology. The European Commission funded a series of related research projects on emotion and computing, culminating in the HUMAINE project which brought together leading academic researchers from the many related disciplines. This book grew out of that project, and its chapters are arranged according to its working areas: theories and models; signals to signs; data and databases; emotion in interaction; emotion in cognition and action; persuasion and communication; usability; and ethics and good practice. The fundamental aim of the book is to offer researchers an overview of the related areas, sufficient for them to do credible work on affective or emotion-oriented computing. The book serves as an academically sound introduction to the range of disciplines involved – technical, empirical and conceptual – and will be of value to researchers in the areas of artificial intelligence, psychology, cognition and user—machine interaction.
