Advances in Asthma

Advances in Asthma PDF Author: Akihito Yokoyama
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811327904
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 189

Book Description
This book provides discussions on bronchial asthma from a clinical perspective, focusing on the recent studies on its pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment. It also explores the lastest findings regarding the phenotypes and endotypes of asthmatic patients, making it of particular interest to those involved with non-eosinophilic asthma and eosinophilic asthma. Further, it discusses the importance of ILC 2 in eosinophilic asthma, and the accumulated results from the forced oscilliation technique and periostin that are actively practiced in Japan. As some aspects of diagnosis and treatment are different in Western and Asian countries, it is important that the data is disseminated around the globe. The clinical questions addressed by the authors are critical and thought provoking, while the questions raised by the editors are instructive, informative and provide new perspectives on unresolved issues. This book appeals to wide readership from beginning learners to physicians in clinical practice and scholars engaging in basic research.

Extracellular Nucleic Acids

Extracellular Nucleic Acids PDF Author: Yo Kikuchi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642126170
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 239

Book Description
Extracellular nucleic acids have recently emerged as important players in the fields of biology and the medical sciences. In the last several years, extracellular nucleic acids have been shown to be involved in not only microbial evolution as genetic elements but also to have structural roles in bacterial communities, such as biofilms. Circulating DNA and RNA have been found in human blood and expected to be useful as non-invasive markers for the diagnosis of several diseases. In addition, extracellular nucleic acids have attracted attention as active modulators of the immune system of higher organisms, including humans. This book covers nearly all of the newly developing fields related to extracellular nucleic acids, including those of basic biology, ecology and the medical sciences, and provides readers with the latest knowledge on them.

Advanced Imaging Modalities

Advanced Imaging Modalities PDF Author: Steffen Rickes
Publisher: S. Karger AG (Switzerland)
ISBN: 9783805577779
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 94

Book Description
Imaging technologies are the cornerstone in the diagnosis and staging of benign and malignant lesions in the liver and pancreas. Although the methods are partly competing, they often need to be used in a complementary way in order to obtain optimal results for decision making. The introduction of new and refined non-invasive imaging technologies has lately led to a major progress in the diagnostic approach to diseases of the digestive system. For example, this is the case with echo-enhanced sonography: This technique is based on the property of microbubbles to resonate and emit harmonic waves in an ultrasound field. The initial method, defined as 'second harmonic imaging', was limited by the incapacity to separate the signals obtained from the bubbles and the tissue texture. This procedure has been replaced by the pulse inversion imaging technique which now gives a much better picture quality, allowing to depict the vascularization pattern of distinct lesions in the liver and pancreas. Similarly, the performance of other key imaging modalities such as CT-scan, magnetic resonance imaging, Doppler sonography and endosonography has been improved. Clinicians seeking current information on modern imaging modalities for diagnosis, differentiation and staging of gastrointestinal diseases will find this publication very useful.
