Book Description
Excerpt from Artificial Anaesthesia: A Manual of Anesthetic Agents and Their Employment in the Treatment of Disease Having been informed by my publishers that it would be necessary to issue a Fourth edition of my "Manual of Anaesthetics" this year (1896), it has been my endeavor to bring the whole subject of artificial anaesthesia and anaesthetics up to the present time, being careful to obtain all the most notable discoveries of the last six years. I have examined all the important works published during the interval, testing in almost every instance the new anaesthetics, or modifications of the old, on myself or my friends, also the mechanical contrivances for their administration. In visiting Europe in 1892-3, met and acted with the Committee on Anaesthetics of the British Medical Association at the meetings at Nottingham and London - at the former presented a paper of statistics on the subject of anaesthetics. By special invitation - visited the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow to witness the Scotch method of administering chloroform, a careful and conscientious statement of which I have endeavored to give. It is somewhat remarkable that the fourth edition of this book should be issued on the fiftieth anniversary of the discovery and introduction of ether (October 6, 1846). It is the one systemic anaesthetic which has proved, during all these years, the most available and the most free from danger. Numerous valuable anaesthetics have been brought to the knowledge of the profession, but all had to give place to ether. A careful study of its constituents and its mode of preparation, with a careful trial of its physiological effects, have proved its value. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Control and Automation in Anaesthesia
Author: H. Schwilden
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642795730
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
This book records the presentations given at a workshop held in Bonn in May 1994. The aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists from various disciplines and clinicians to discuss within a group of experts the theoretical, medical, engineering, and regulatory aspects of automated control of therapeutic interventions in. anaesthesiology. The meeting was considered a continuation of a preceding work shop on "Quantitation, Modelling and Control in Anaesthesia" [1], which was held also in Bonn 10 years ago in May 1984. That workshop dealt with problems of how to quantitate concepts like anaesthetic depth, how to model anaesthetic drug disposition, how to link phar macokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and how to use such concepts for the control of anaesthetic drug delivery. With respect to these topics the current proceedings have simultaneously both a broadened and a narrowed perspective. It is broadened in so far as the topics of the workshop did not focus exclusively on anaesthetic drugs and the control of their delivery, but did also discuss anaesthesia machine monitoring and patients therapeutic monitoring as well as control of blood pressure and artificial ventilation. The proceedings have nar rowed the perspective insofar as they do not intensively discuss the processes of quantitation and modelling but presuppose them and give more room to control, especially automated control. During the past 10 years informatics has tremendously expanded its knowledge and methods applicable to control problems.
