In doing that, we do not think it necessary to refer particularly to the routine actions of the office and the duties which must be discharged regularly. Rather, we think, the report should comprise a list of more or less important and significant things that took place in the Towns administration during the period covered to complete a record for future reference and use. At present some actions do not get recorded officially as they are completed. To make such records continuous and useful, we suggest that similar reports be made in the future on at least a two year basis. Actions Taken 1955 and 1956 1955 Austin-Western Grader purchased. Three-quarters flowage rights at Loon Pond purchased. The Town owns full rights now. Police activities. Policies established. Auto markers, lights, blinker, siren for car purchased. Arrangements made for handling cases in Alton court, now Belmont. Land and building at Corner purchased for Town garage and lot. Loon Pond road and beach surveyed. Social Security program established for Town employees. Weekly reports of road agents' activities for reference now being made. Surplus food program for needy established. Loon Pond hearings and activities with Town attorney. July 1955 Report by State Highway Department that they could not start Old Stage Highway work until spring of 1956. Old Alton Bay road bridge rebuilt to culvert, ten 4-foot sections and Hatch bridge, five 4-foot sections. August 1955 At the request of the road agents, started handling road work pay rolls, paying workmen by individual checks. Selectmen began to hold meetings weekly.
