Excerpt from Annual Report of the Selectmen, Treasurer, and Superintending School Committee of the Town of Rye, N. H., For the Year Ending March 1st, 1885 A pleasant and profitable incident of the school year was the official visit, made Dec. 31, by Hon. James W. Patterson, State Supt. Of Public Instruction. Each of the schools was visited during the day, and v'al'ious'classqs called to illustrate the usu al daily work.' In the evening a short stage entertainment was given, at the Town hall, by pupils selected from the several s'chools, which was in turn, followed by a most eloquent and ih structive address by Supt. Patterson. The South District school was taught during the year, by Miss Elzada M. Goss of Rye, a teacher of excellent abilities and large experience. The school is much too large foi any teacher to do herself Justice but the pupils made good Improxe ment and seemed to be undei good discipline. Owing to the peculiar acoustic properties of othe schoolroom it always seems noisy when, in fact, it is not more so than in any ordinary schoolroom containing an equal number of pupils. If possible, I hope some plan will be devised to lessen the echoes that ap pear to be reduplicated in volume from Whatever part of the room they proceed.
