Book Description
Excerpt from Ninth Annual Report of President Low to the Trustees: October 3, 1898 Toward the end of the year, on June 4, 1898, just as the exercises of Commencement week were about to begin, the University met with a heavy loss by the death of Stephen P. Nash, who had been a Trustee of the University for thirty years. Mr. Nash became a Trustee in 1868, and thereafter, until the day of his death, was constant and unfailing in his devotion to the interests of the University. His care fulness, his good judgment, his acquaintance with the law, his willingness to give valuable time, and his gen tle courtesy, combined to make him at all times one of the most influential members of the Board. Mr. Nash was not an alumnus of Columbia, but no son ever served his Alma Mater more faithfully and lov ingly than did Mr. Nash the University which had honored him by making him one of its board of con trol. The University gratefully adopted him into the ranks of its own sons by conferring upon him in 1889 the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws. At his death, it named in his honor one of its chairs of law, the Nash Professorship of Law. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Fifth Annual Report of President Low to the Trustees: October 1, 1894 A year ago I reported that the mortuary chapel erected by the Trustees in the cemetery at Sheffield, Mass., as a memorial of President and Mrs. Barnard, was substantially finished. It was the intention at that time of the committee having the matter in charge also to place a proper monument over the grave where President and Mrs. Barnard were interred. At the suggestion of Mrs. General Barnard, however, the chapel itself has been made their monument, and the President and his Wife are now buried beneath it. Suitable tablets mark the chapel as their memorial. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
