This is the 67th and most recent United Nations Annual Report presented by the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for the period of 2011-2012. The report emphasizes that the world has changed dramatically since the creation of the United Nations in 1945. The global community is seen to face a whole new set of global threats. These include the adverse impact of climate change, rising inequities within and across populations, resource scarcity, the rapid spread of infectious disease and terrorism. Ban Ki-moon emphasizes his five-year Action Agenda for joint action in the area of sustainable development, building a safer and more secure world, supporting countries in transition and working with and for women and young people. It is argued that progress has been made in achieving the Millennium Development targets ahead of schedule, mobilization behind the Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All initiative and the implementation of several change management initiatives designed to strengthen the United Nations. Reflecting the United Nations' commitment to going green, Ban Ki-moon announced his decision to go paperless with the report of the Secretary-General on the work of the Organization. The report contains nine substantive chapters which capture the day-to-day activities during the period of 2011-2012. In addition to the presentation are activities related to sustainable development and progress on reaching the Millennium Development Goals, charting a new course at Rio+20, the growing need for action on climate change, sustainable energy for all and the global job crisis. With regard to the maintenance of international peace and security, activities are described on conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding and children in armed conflict. Separate chapters are dedicated to the development of Africa, the promotion of human rights, the coordination of humanitarian assistance, the promotion of justice and international law, disarmament, drug control/crime prevention/terrorism and the strengthening of the United Nations. The 67th Annual Report of the United Nations for 2011-2012 tells an existing story. The anthology includes all 67 Annual Reports issued so far and presents the evolution of the United Nations on a year-to-year basis. When compared in particular with the first Annual Reports, it becomes apparent how the United Nations and the world have changed.
