The Routledge Handbook of State-Owned Enterprises

The Routledge Handbook of State-Owned Enterprises PDF Author: Luc Bernier
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 135104253X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 679

Book Description
State-owned enterprises make up roughly 10 percent of the world economy, yet they are woefully understudied. This handbook offers the first synthesis of the topic since the 1980s and offers a comprehensive reference for a generation. The authors provide a detailed explanation of the theory that underpins the expansion of state-owned enterprises in the 21st century. Each chapter delivers an overview of current knowledge, as well as identifying issues and relevant debates for future research. The authors explain how state-owned enterprises are used in both developed and developing countries and offer an insight into complex and fascinating organizations such as the German municipal conglomerates or the multinational companies owned by states. New modes of governance and regulation have been invented to make sure they act in the public interest. This handbook brings together a wealth of international scholars, offering multiple theoretical perspectives to help shape a brave new world. It will be of interest to teachers and students of Economics, Public Administration and Business, academics, established researchers and PhD students seeking rigorous literature reviews on specific aspects of SOEs, as well as practitioners and decision makers in international organizations.

India, Mixed Enterprise and Western Business

India, Mixed Enterprise and Western Business PDF Author: Daniel L. Spencer
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9401507139
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
This book is a study of one type of relation between public authorities and the private sector. In the modern world it is becoming increasingly clear that these two ways of organizing economic life must learn to get along with each other and develop vehicles of mutual advantage. This is especially true in the re lations between advanced and developing economies because for historical reasons, the development of non-Western economies today is taking a course quite different from the path of the advanced business economies of the West. It is desirable for both spheres to try and understand each other and look for ways of getting along. International tensions can be alleviated to the degree that positive attitudes are taken and mechanisms of the kind dealt with in this book are created. Much of the problem is simply one of semantics. The term "socialism" or "socialistic pattern of society", for example, which is often used in India as a positive word has very negative conno tations for Americans. There are, of course, socialists in India who would make their economy entirely publicly owned, indis tinguishable from the Chinese or the Russian, but the vast majority of leaders associated with the dominant party in India visualize a present and future mixed economy not too different from that reached by the United States through a very different road. We in the United States have been nurtured on the belief in private enterprise.

Co-operative and Mutual Enterprises Research

Co-operative and Mutual Enterprises Research PDF Author: Tim Mazzarol
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000986861
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
Co-operative and mutual enterprise is one of the oldest and most enduring forms of business, encompassing co-operatives, mutual firms, friendly societies, and credit unions. This book provides an expert overview of contemporary research in this important field. Governments around the world have encouraged the development of co-operative and mutual enterprises (CMEs), yet relatively little attention has been given to them within the mainstream business and economics research literature. In this book, the author summarises the origins, impacts, and structure of the research field. The book does so by focusing on the CME business model and is structured around a conceptual framework for research into CMEs. It also explores the historical evolution of the CME research field and presents a systematic review of the literature. Foundation theories relevant to CMEs are discussed before detailed discussions of the research from a systems, enterprise, and member level perspective. This book critically analyses the state of knowledge in the field of CMEs which delivers a concise and valuable book for scholars and students in the fields of business and management around the world.
