Anger Management, Types I and II

Anger Management, Types I and II PDF Author: Steven T. Griggs, Ph.D.
Publisher: Steven T. Griggs, Ph.D., A Psychological Corporation
ISBN:
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 48

Book Description
I’ve been a practicing psychologist in an outpatient setting for over thirty-two years. I run into the same conditions or "issues" almost every day (addictions, anxiety, ADHD/learning disabilities, assertiveness, children’s behaviors, mood disorders, relationships and self-esteem). Anger management is important unto itself, but plays a very strong role in the other areas. Usually, when people can control their anger, the problems in each of these groups diminish. Anger management is a skill that everyone needs and uses to some degree, in just about every situation. This webpage contains information about my ebook on this subject, anger management techniques, anger management tips and anger management training. It turns out anger management can be taught to almost everyone. I’ve taught it to children, as well as adults. I’ve taught techniques to schizophrenics and to people with out-of-control mood disorders. Anyone can learn about this subject and anyone can learn to manage anger. You may be having trouble in your relationship, or blowing up at work. You may be referred by the courts, which happens if your anger leads to excessive drinking or fighting, custody issues, etc.. I’ve read most of the pop-psychology literature on anger management over the last 30 (+) years. Many of the books are excellent. They, like this ebook deal with a variety of anger management aspects. Anger has to do with being out of control of reactions, or about being out of touch with feelings. Type I anger people "lose it" and act out. Type II anger people lose it and "act in." Type I anger people explode, while Type II anger people implode. There are characteristics and symptoms of each, which I list and explore. Type II anger is a NEW concept. You won't find this described anywhere else, because its my original idea. People have a long list of reasons not to control their anger, which is addressed. There are lots of popular or other internet sources for anger management techniques. I list them. These work, sort of, and if they work for you--good. Your anger problem is not that serious. But there are deeper, psychological approaches that fix, not mollify the problem. To effectively manage anger (either Type I or Type II), one has to get to the "deep stuff." Most of the pop-psychology books are too long. I’ve boiled down the concepts in these books into clear, manageable steps. I’ve made this as easy to understand as is humanly possible, combining what I’ve read with what I’ve learned from clients. Plus, there is a discussion on the newest ways to conceptualize anger mismanagement, relative not just to psychology, but to cognitive behavioral techniques and mindfulness. Like my other ebooks, this one has no fat. Think of it as a "Cliffs Notes" publication. It's "sort of" a quick read (about an hour or two). I have to explain a few new terms, because there are new ideas and the terms you probably already know are put together in new ways. The theory I espouse is different from standard "behavior change" books. It works better and is very simple to understand. That's the point of an ebook. My research has not turned up another ebook that does what mine does.

Four Faces of Anger

Four Faces of Anger PDF Author: Gertrude Gillette
Publisher: University Press of America
ISBN: 0761851704
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 179

Book Description
Four Faces of Anger brings to the modern age wisdom on the topic of anger by four ancient authors. These authors are broadly representative of the classic views on anger in the tradition: Seneca, the first century A.D. stoic philosopher whose moral teaching won the admiration of pagans and Christians alike, even that of the irascible Jerome; Evagrius, who represents the monastic anchoretic tradition of the desert and its emphasis on the spiritual growth of the individual; Cassian, who trained in the same desert — shaped this tradition to speak to cenobites in the West. Our last author, Augustine, treats of the subject both as monastic legislator for his monks and as bishop for his lay congregation. His Rule for monks has one whole chapter devoted to the topic of how to deal with anger in a community setting. Although his initial ideas, expressed in abstractions and ideals, are important foundations for communal living, Augustine goes on to teach that the genuine work of building a loving and unified community is realized in the concrete struggles of human nature striving to overcome the tendencies of individualism and egoism. Anger, a force that often breaks down and prevents the growth of community, must eventually be squarely faced and, according to all of the monastic authors discussed in this book, the sooner the better. This chapter also includes several instances in Augustine's own life when he had to deal with anger in himself, in his congregation, or in the wider world that often solicited his help. The reader will soon realize that the Christian authors are not much interested in what anger is from a psychological perspective — though their treatment of anger is not entirely devoid of this element — but their focus is rather on how the vice of anger inhibits the spiritual growth of the soul and its relationship with God. Everyone, whether monastic or not, will glean from these pages the essential elements of detecting, eliminating, and controlling the negative side of this emotion so that he or she will advance on the spiritual journey unshackled by this all-too-pervasive human passion.

Book Description
Whether it is road rage, rage from politicians, rage and intimidation within the corporate world, anger within families, anger in schools, vitriol and anger between retail clerk and customer, and sadly anger within churches - we are a society engulfed in anger. Peace has been taken from the earth and our hearts have grown callous. We are poisoned by anger and we are only too glad to share the poison. But there is hope, for there is another Way; it is the way of Jesus, it is the way of His peace. This is not just counter cultural, this is God-cultural - it is the culture of God. A LETTER TO A FRIEND - REFLECTIONS ON PEACE AND ANGER guides the reader away from the way of anger and into the Way of Peace, equipping the reader with thinking and strategies to combat the anger within us and the anger without us - so that instead of contributing to the culture of anger, we can learn to be agents of peace.

Divine Anger in the Hebrew Bible

Divine Anger in the Hebrew Bible PDF Author: Deena E. Grant
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1666787396
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 216

Book Description
In this book, we explore the aim, expressions and outcomes of God's anger in the Hebrew Bible. We consider divine anger against the backdrop of human anger in order to discern those aspects of it that are recognizably human from those facets of it that are distinctly divine. Furthermore, we examine passages from a range of literary contexts across major biblical collections in order to distinguish those features of divine anger that are elemental to its definition from those that are limited to individual collections. The sum of these conclusions forms our answer to the question: What does the Bible mean when it describes God as angry?

Anger Treatment for People with Developmental Disabilities

Anger Treatment for People with Developmental Disabilities PDF Author: John L. Taylor
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470870060
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
Anger and aggression are prevalent problems among people with developmental disabilities and constitute primary reasons for them to be admitted and re-admitted to institutions. They are also a key reason for the prescribing of behaviour control and anti-psychotic medication to this client group. Stimulated by growing research in this area, mental health and criminal justice professionals have begun to see the benefits of anger assessment and cognitive-behavioural anger treatment for people with developmental disabilities. There is no prior text to guide anger treatment provision to this client group. This text presents a manual-guided cognitive-behavioural anger treatment protocol, grounded in a solid theoretical framework and empirical evidence for its efficacy in clinical practice. The assessment and treatment approach is designed to engage and motivate patients with recurrent and deep-rooted anger problems and their manifestation in serious aggressive behaviour. Accompanying the treatment protocol are a number of worksheets, handouts, and exercise sheets for clinicians and clients that can be accessed online.
