Never Forgotten

Never Forgotten PDF Author: Jenny La Sala
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1490766502
Category : Literary Collections
Languages : en
Pages : 440

Book Description
When the Vietnam Veterans tours were over, they came home to find a country divided and a nation unappreciative of their service. How they were treated, how they integrated back into society, and how their wartime experiences changed them are just some of the questions answered, as their stories unfold in Never Forgotten. Told by the Veterans themselves, these are their stories. "The book Never Forgotten, captures 58 Veterans accounts and others on what it was like to experience the Vietnam War. In their own words, they talk about their return home, struggles to maintain healthy relationships, decades of recovery, and feelings of worthlessness. Many find emotional well-being and self-worth by helping other Veterans. Those of us who are Veterans or whose loved ones have served in war, know with certainty we are different when we return home, than before we marched off to war. Because of this difference, for ourselves and for those we love and enjoy having in our lives, Never Forgotten is a must read." ~ Michael B. Christy, Lt. Col. USA (ret) and Vietnam Veteran

Chesty

Chesty PDF Author: Jon T. Hoffman
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 0307430804
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 674

Book Description
Featured on the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ Reading List and the Chief of Naval Operation’s “Naval Power” Reading List The Marine Corps is known for its heroes, and Lieutenant General Lewis B. Puller has long been considered the greatest of them all. His assignments and activities covered an extraordinary spectrum of warfare. Puller mastered small unit guerrilla warfare as a lieutenant in Haiti in the 1920s, and at the end of his career commanded a division in Korea. In between, he chased Sandino in Nicaragua and fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu. With his bulldog face, barrel chest (which earned him the nickname Chesty), gruff voice, and common touch, Puller became—and has remained—the epitome of the Marine combat officer. At times Puller's actions have been called into question—at Peleliu, for instance, where, against a heavily fortified position, he lost more than half of his regiment. And then there is the saga of his son, who followed in Chesty's footsteps as a Marine officer only to suffer horrible wounds in Vietnam (his book, Fortunate Son, won the Pulitzer Prize). Jon Hoffman has been given special access to Puller's personal papers as well as his personnel record. The result will unquestionably stand as the last word about Chesty Puller.

Flying Death

Flying Death PDF Author: Samuel K. Beamon
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781414083018
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 216

Book Description
Our Family History is about my mother's family and an outline back to our European roots. Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I thought that my families were just good Christian folk. They worked hard and sometimes played hard. As I began to grow older, I began to research some of the family lines and discovered, as I am sure most other people would, that I had some famous ancestors. I began a search that lasted many years. This is a gathering of stories of our families and the Genealogy of 780 years of Hortons, 381 years of DeHavens, 171 years of Fitzgeralds, 291 years of Surratts, and 456 years of Caves. It is in no way complete. It is only as accurate as the information gathered from old diaries, family bibles and oral histories.

Law, Selfhood and Feminist Philosophy

Law, Selfhood and Feminist Philosophy PDF Author: Janice Richardson
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000921557
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 231

Book Description
At the intersection of law, feminism and philosophy, this book analyses the ways in which certain bodies and ‘selves’ continue to be treated as monstrous aberrations from the ‘ideal’ figure or norm. Employing contemporary feminist philosophy to rethink accepted legal ideas, the book is divided into three sections. The first focuses on the different relational ontologies of philosophers Adriana Cavarero and Christine Battersby – also considering their work via a third term: Spinoza. The second turns to diverse feminist engagements with the social contract theorists. The third section employs insights from throughout the book to focus more explicitly on law – and, in particular privacy law and the so-called ‘wrongful birth’ cases. Bringing together more than twenty years of sustained reflection, this book offers an insightful account of how contemporary feminist philosophy can contribute to a richer understanding of law. It will be of enormous interest to scholars and students working in the areas of legal theory, feminist thought and philosophy.
