AFSPA & Human Rights Violation: Analytical findings of Ukhrul District, Manipur.
Author: Dr. Depend kazingmei
Publisher: Blue Rose Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 216
Book Description
This book is centered on understanding public sentiment, with a primary emphasis on formulating constructive solutions derived from input provided by various stakeholders and civil society organizations. Unfortunately, Ukhrul district was considered a ‘disturbed area’ even before AFSPA was imposed in the whole state of Manipur on 8th September 1980. The fact is, even if there is peace and harmony in the state, it is always considered disturbed due to hostility. Taking advantage of this, gross human rights violations have been committed for decades. Several protests and rallies have been staged but have gone unnoticed by the Central and State governments, leaving much agitation and protests in vain. The overarching goal of this book is to foster a deeper understanding between the Armed Forces and the residents of Ukhrul with a concurrent emphasis on making positive contributions to enhance the overall well-being of the state of Manipur.

Negotiating Peace in El Salvador
Author: Tricia Juhn
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1349268100
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 179
Book Description
Set against the backdrop of the collapsing Cold War world, this monograph draws on entirely new documentary evidence to chronicle almost two years worth of UN-led peace talks to end the civil war in El Salvador. Presented in 'moment-to-moment' fashion, hitherto private notes and interviews with the chief UN, American and Salvadoran negotiators demonstrate that the key to enduring peace was to restructure relations between the country's powerful entrepreneurs and the armed forces.

The Function of Intelligence in Crisis Management
Author: Shaun P. McCarthy
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429787340
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 426
Book Description
First published in 1998, this work is a study of the relationship between intelligence and policy and focuses on the function of intelligence in crisis management. It provides an integrated approach to the theory of the intelligence process and the principles of crisis management. It identifies those factors that influence the producer-consumer relationship within the context of the Traditionalist vs. Activist approaches, i.e. The Kent-Kendall debate. New insight into the practical limitations of the Traditionalist approach to intelligence is provided. Using terrorism as a crisis phenomenon, the study analyses the function of intelligence and the reasons behind the intelligence and the reasons behind the intelligence failures during the Reagan Administration’s Foreign Policy initiatives in Lebanon, 1981-1985. With its focus on intelligence theory and management, as well as crisis management and policy making, this book will appeal to academics, scholars, intelligence practitioners, historians, policy makers and business management professionals. Although the work focuses on the U.S. intelligence community and the behavioural trends within American intelligence and security organisations, the principles and lessons learned can be applied to business and government in other democracies.

A Public Peace Process
Author: H. Saunders
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0312299397
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 343
Book Description
Many of the deep-rooted human conflicts that seize our attention today are not ready for formal mediation and negotiation. People do not negotiate about identity, fear, historic grievance, and injustice. Sustained dialogue provides a space where citizens outside government can change their conflictual relationships. Governments can negotiate binding agreements and enforce and implement them, but only citizens can change human relationships. Governments have long had their tools of diplomacy - mediation, negotiation, force, and allocation of resources. Harold H. Saunders' A Public Peace Process provides citizens outside government with their own instrument for transforming conflict. Saunders outlines a systematic approach for citizens to use in reducing racial, ethnic, and other deep-rooted tensions in their countries, communities, and organizations.
