Book Description
Filament wound, carbon-carbon, composite tubular specimens were tested to failure by internal pressurization of a compliant rubber bladder. When the specimen length exceeded the bladder length, significant strength increases were measured relative to those measured when the specimen length was equal to or less than the bladder length. A stress analysis is performed to study the effects of this material overhang on strength measurement variations using Laplace transform techniques. An explanation for and discussion of the strength variation is included. Optimum specimen design criteria are presented which minimize data falsification and material consumption.
