This paper attempts to define the hazards associated with mobile powered haulage equipment at surface mines and specifically, truck haulage. Serious risks are created by steep haulroad gradients, mechanical failure of safety features on haulage equipment, dumping at edges of fill and dump locations, "blind-spots, " slick road surfaces and uncontrolled traffic through mine operations. Training programs and vigilance by mine workers, supervisors, mine operators and mine inspectors will ul timately result in safer work places.
