Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products

Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products PDF Author: Ashutosh K. Shukla
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111928631X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 295

Book Description
Basic theory, applications, and recent trends in analytical techniques used in crude oil and related products analysis This book covers the application of different spectroscopic methods to characterize crude oil and related products. Its topics are presented in a pedagogical manner so that those new to the subject can better understand the content. The book begins by familiarizing the reader with the rheological characterization of crude oil and related products. Subsequent chapters are directed towards the current trends of different spectroscopic methods for the characterization of crude oil. Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products features chapters on: optical interrogation of petroleum asphaltenes (myths and reality); ESR characterization of organic free radicals in petroleum products; high-field, pulsed, and double resonance studies of crude oils and their derivatives; NMR spectroscopy in bitumen characterization; applications of Raman spectroscopy in crude oil and bitumen characterization; and more. Uses a bottom-up approach—starting from the basic theory of the technique followed by its applications and recent trends in crude oil analysis Includes informative content so as to take a technician to the level of using a particular analytical method Covers relevany information so as to enable a manager in the industry to make purchasing decisions Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products is aimed at researchers in academia as well as technicians and developers of new analytical methods in the oil industry and related areas. It will also be of interest to professionals, scientists, and graduate students in analytical sciences dealing with oil and environmental analysis.

Petroleum Oil Characterization Using Carbon Type Analysis and Infrared Spectroscopy

Petroleum Oil Characterization Using Carbon Type Analysis and Infrared Spectroscopy PDF Author: M. E. Lepera
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 35

Book Description
The composition of petroleum oil was investigated using carbon type analysis and infrared spectroscopy. Samples of lubricant basestocks from different crude sources, finished engine lubricants, and commercial process oils were obtained for evaluation. Both methods of analysis provided a means to characterize or define hydrocarbon types present in the petroleum oil samples. An absorbance ratio of aromaticity-paraffinicity was subsequently developed to permit a rapid assignment of the relative hydrocarbon composition of petroleum oil samples. (Author).

Spectroscopic Methods in Food Analysis

Spectroscopic Methods in Food Analysis PDF Author: Adriana S. Franca
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351648799
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 797

Book Description
Given the inherent complexity of food products, most instrumental techniques employed for quality and authenticity evaluation (e.g., chromatographic methods) are time demanding, expensive, and involve a considerable amount of manual labor. Therefore, there has been an increasing interest in simpler, faster, and reliable analytical methods for assessing food quality attributes. Spectroscopic Methods in Food Analysis presents the basic concepts of spectroscopic methods, together with a discussion on the most important applications in food analysis. The determination of product quality and authenticity and the detection of adulteration are major issues in the food industry, causing concern among consumers and special attention among food manufacturers. As such, this book explains why spectroscopic methods have been extensively employed to the analysis of food products as they often require minimal or no sample preparation, provide rapid and on-line analysis, and have the potential to run multiple tests on a single sample (i.e., non-destructive). This book consists of concepts related to food quality and authenticity, that are quite broad, given the different demands of the manufacturer, the consumer, the surveillance and the legislative bodies that ultimately provide healthy and safe products.
