Book Description
Some new dielectric waveguide structures suitable for millimeter wave and optical integrated circuits are presented. A method of analyzing wave propagation in these guides is developed through assuming simple field distribution and approximating the various regions of the guides in terms of effective dielectric constants. The mathematical formulation utilized results in a closed form solution from which the dispersion characteristics of the waveguides are readily obtained. Experimental results are described and the agreement between theory and experiment is shown to be quite good.

Millimeter-Wave Waveguides

Millimeter-Wave Waveguides PDF Author: Dmitri Lioubtchenko
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0306487241
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 191

Book Description
Millimeter-Wave Waveguides is a monograph devoted to open waveguides for millimeter wave applications. In the first chapters, general waveguide theory is presented (with the emphasis on millimeter wave applications). Next, the book systematically describes the results of both theoretical and experimental studies of rectangular dielectric rod waveguides with high dielectric permittivities. Simple and accurate methods for propagation constant calculations for isotropic as well as anisotropic dielectric waveguides are described. Both analytical and numerical approaches are covered. Different types of transitions have been simulated in order to find optimal configurations as well as optimal dimensions of dielectric waveguides for the frequency band of 75-110 GHz. Simple and effective design is presented. The experimental studies of dielectric waveguides show that Sapphire waveguide can be utilized for this frequency band as a very low-loss waveguide. Design of antennas with low return loss based on dielectric waveguides is also described.

Design and Analysis of Transitions From Rectangular Waveguide to Layered Ridge Dielectric Waveguide

Design and Analysis of Transitions From Rectangular Waveguide to Layered Ridge Dielectric Waveguide PDF Author: George E. Ponchak
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 32

Book Description
Transitions from rectangular waveguide to layered ridge dielectric waveguide are studied both experimentally and theoretically. In addition, a design procedure is given for each transition. The analysis and design procedures are valid for transitions between rectangular waveguide and other open dielectric waveguides such as Image Guide, Insulated Image Guide, Dielectric Ridge Guide, and Inverted Strip Dielectric Waveguide. It is shown that for small dielectric waveguides such as a Layered Ridge Dielectric Waveguide, a transition which is comprised of a tapered ridge waveguide reduces the radiation loss by at least 1 dB.

Dielectric Waveguides for Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits

Dielectric Waveguides for Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits PDF Author: Harold Jacobs

Book Description
An approach to millimeter-wave integrated circuits was studied in which silicon dielectric waveguides are used as transmission lines. Compatible devices and components can be built into the line or attached to the line in such a manner that generation, control, and processing of the signal can be carried out by conductivity modulation techniques. Experiments were carried out demonstrating that mechanical phase shifters and tuning elements, based on this principle, can provide as much as 250 degrees/cm phase shift. Electronic phase shifters were demonstrated with 90 degrees/cm and little or no change in attenuation. Oscillators were constructed in semiconductor dielectric cavities for the first time with unloaded and loaded quality factors competitive with metal waveguides.

Investigation of Planar Waveguides and Components for Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits

Investigation of Planar Waveguides and Components for Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits PDF Author: Kevin John Webb

Pages : 168

Book Description
Several important elements in millimeter-wave integrated circuit systems are studied. Filter-type structures which are composed of a series of discontinuities are employed frequently in such systems. The study of the general discontinuity problem is thus very important. Contents: Uniform Fin-Line Analysis; Moment Method Analysis of Fin-Line Discontinuities; Iterative and Variational Solutions for Fin-Line Discontinuities; Dielectric Waveguide Filters.

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
