Mathematical Topics in Fluid Mechanics

Mathematical Topics in Fluid Mechanics PDF Author: Jose Francisco Rodrigues
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000158039
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
This Research Note presents several contributions and mathematical studies in fluid mechanics, namely in non-Newtonian and viscoelastic fluids and on the Navier-Stokes equations in unbounded domains. It includes review of the mathematical analysis of incompressible and compressible flows and results in magnetohydrodynamic and electrohydrodynamic stability and thermoconvective flow of Boussinesq-Stefan type. These studies, along with brief communications on a variety of related topics comprise the proceedings of a summer course held in Lisbon, Portugal in 1991. Together they provide a set of comprehensive survey and advanced introduction to problems in fluid mechanics and partial differential equations.

Numerical Methods for Non-Newtonian Fluids

Numerical Methods for Non-Newtonian Fluids PDF Author:
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080932029
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 826

Book Description
Non-Newtonian flows and their numerical simulations have generated an abundant literature, as well as many publications and references to which can be found in this volume's articles. This abundance of publications can be explained by the fact that non-Newtonian fluids occur in many real life situations: the food industry, oil & gas industry, chemical, civil and mechanical engineering, the bio-Sciences, to name just a few. Mathematical and numerical analysis of non-Newtonian fluid flow models provide challenging problems to partial differential equations specialists and applied computational mathematicians alike. This volume offers investigations. Results and conclusions that will no doubt be useful to engineers and computational and applied mathematicians who are focused on various aspects of non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics. - New review of well-known computational methods for the simulation viscoelastic and viscoplastic types - Discusses new numerical methods that have proven to be more efficient and more accurate than traditional methods - Articles that discuss the numerical simulation of particulate flow for viscoelastic fluids

Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics

Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics PDF Author: Patrick Chassaing
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031100867
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 579

Book Description
This textbook provides a coherent and structured overview of fluid mechanics, a discipline concerned with many natural phenomena and at the very heart of the most diversified industrial applications and human activities. The balance between phenomenological analysis, physical conceptualization and mathematical formulation serve both as a unifying educational marker and as a methodological guide to the three parts of the work. The thermo-mechanical motion equations of a homogeneous single-phase fluid are established, from which flow models (perfect fluid, viscous) and motion classes (isovolume, barotropic, irrotational, etc.) are derived. Incompressible, potential flows and compressible flows, both in an isentropic evolution and shock, of an ideal inviscid fluid are addressed in the second part. The viscous fluid is the subject of the last one, with the creeping motion regime and the laminar, dynamic and thermal boundary layer. Historical perspectives are included whenever they enrich the understanding of modern concepts. Many examples, chosen for their pedagogical relevance, are dealt with in exercises. The book is intended as a teaching tool for undergraduate students, wishing to acquire a first command of fluid mechanics, as well as graduates in advanced courses and engineers in other fields, concerned with completing what is sometimes a scattered body of knowledge.
