En ocasiones el análisis de datos es considerado como la parte principal de la investigación cualitativa, en general mientras que la recogida de datos es el paso previo para prepararlo. Esta obra analiza con gran detalle las estrategias básicas utilizadas en análisis de datos cualitativos. Primero se centra en la categorización de los datos, después en las narrativas y biografías y por último habla del uso de los ordenadores en estos campos. Se le presta una atención considerable al análisis comparativo, a la calidad y a la ética específica del análisis de datos. Ofrece las bases para analizar todo tipo de datos verbales obtenidos en una investigación cualitativa como las declaraciones y las historias.
