Steel Connection Analysis PDF Author: Paolo Rugarli
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111930346X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 546

Book Description
First book to discuss the analysis of structural steel connections by Finite Element Analysis—which provides fast, efficient, and flexible checking of these vital structural components The analysis of steel structures is complex—much more so than the analysis of similar concrete structures. There are no universally accepted rules for the analysis of connections in steel structures or the analysis of the stresses transferred from one connection to another. This book presents a general approach to steel connection analysis and check, which is the result of independent research that began more than fifteen years ago. It discusses the problems of connection analysis and describes a generally applicable methodology, based on Finite Element Analysis, for analyzing the connections in steel structures. That methodology has been implemented in software successfully, providing a fast, automatic, and flexible route to the design and analysis of the connections in steel structures. Steel Connection Analysis explains several general methods which have been researched and programmed during many years, and that can be used to tackle the problem of connection analysis in a very general way, with a limited and automated computational effort. It also covers several problems related to steel connection analysis automation. Uses Finite Element Analysis to discuss the analysis of structural steel connections Analysis is applicable to all connections in steel structures The methodology is the basis of the commercially successful CSE connection analysis software Analysis is fast and flexible Structural engineers, fabricators, software developing firms, university researchers, and advanced students of civil and structural engineering will all benefit from Steel Connection Analysis.

Researching Metaphor in the Ancient Near East

Researching Metaphor in the Ancient Near East PDF Author: Marta Pallavidini
Publisher: Harrassowitz
ISBN: 9783447114370
Category : Akkadian language
Languages : en
Pages : 212

Book Description
Metaphor has intrigued philosophers, rhetoricians, and poets since Antiquity. The phenomenon of metaphor has been mostly interpreted as a figure of speech, and only in last decades of the 20th Century the so-called cognitive turn defined metaphor as a product first of the thought and then of the language. According to this view metaphor is used in everyday life and it is present, therefore, potentially, in every type of texts. Furthermore, metaphor can be identified also in images that convey specific concepts. Both as a figure of speech and as a cognitive phenomenon, the research of metaphor in the ancient Near Eastern written sources has never been thoroughly investigated. Yet the study of metaphor will consent to win a deeper knowledge of the texts and of the system of thinking of the cultures that produced those texts. Therefore, this volume edited by Marta Pallavidini and Ludovico Portuese aims to research metaphor from different perspectives by considering its presence in ancient Near Eastern written documents. The contributions focus on several ancient Near Eastern cultures and encompass more than two millennia as well as examine various topics, from Sumerian literature, to Hittite written sources, to Neo-Assyrian art to the Biblical world.

The Myth of the Other

The Myth of the Other PDF Author: Franco Rella
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 152

Book Description
Rella came of age as a philosopher in Italy during the period of the "crisis of reason" or more generally the exhaustion of classical rationality in its authority to structure experience. For Rella, unlike many others, the tensions of the crisis are productive. In The Myth of the Other, he presents a unique perspective on four seminal French thinkers: Lacan, Foucault, Deleuze, and Bataille. Moe's masterful translation brings this remarkable Italian thinker to American readers for the first time. This slim book mayvery well change the way American scholars think about the crisis of the other and the self coming our of French poststructuralism.

The Regional Production of Red-figure Pottery

The Regional Production of Red-figure Pottery PDF Author: Stine Schierup
Publisher: Aarhus University Press
ISBN: 9788771243932
Category : Mediterranean Region
Languages : en

Book Description
During the latter part of the fifth century BC a range of new local red-figure productions were established outside Attica: in mainland Greece as well as in the western Mediterranean. The 17 papers collected in this anthology deal with the norms and conventions of these regional production centres, the means of transmission, pottery-industry circumstances, iconographic choices, archaeological contexts, as well as issues of reception and function from a cross-regional perspective. The contributions reflect the rapid development within this field of study during the last decades and include material and syntheses on this topic published for the first time to an English-speaking audience. The papers will deal with the Euboean, Boeotian, Corinthian, Laconian, Ambracian and Macedonian production centres in mainland Greece and the Sicilian, Calabrian, Lucanian, Apulian and Etruscan workshops in the Italic peninsula.
