Book Description
In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 296
Book Description
This research monograph offers a general theory which encompasses almost all known general theories in such a way that many practical applications can be obtained. It will be useful for mathematicians interested in the development of the abstract Control Theory with applications to Nonlinear PDE, as well as physicists, engineers, and economists looking for theoretical guidance in solving their optimal control problems; and graduate-level seminar courses in nonlinear applied functional analysis.

Optimal Control Problems for Partial Differential Equations on Reticulated Domains
Author: Peter I. Kogut
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0817681493
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 639
Book Description
In the development of optimal control, the complexity of the systems to which it is applied has increased significantly, becoming an issue in scientific computing. In order to carry out model-reduction on these systems, the authors of this work have developed a method based on asymptotic analysis. Moving from abstract explanations to examples and applications with a focus on structural network problems, they aim at combining techniques of homogenization and approximation. Optimal Control Problems for Partial Differential Equations on Reticulated Domains is an excellent reference tool for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners in mathematics and areas of engineering involving reticulated domains.

Counterexamples in Optimal Control Theory
Author: S. I︠A︡ Serovaĭskiĭ
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 9789067644006
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 192
Book Description
This monograph deals with cases where optimal control either does not exist or is not unique, cases where optimality conditions are insufficient of degenerate, or where extremum problems in the sense of Tikhonov and Hadamard are ill-posed, and other situations. A formal application of classical optimisation methods in such cases either leads to wrong results or has no effect. The detailed analysis of these examples should provide a better understanding of the modern theory of optimal control and the practical difficulties of solving extremum problems.

Optimal Control Theory
Author: Suresh P. Sethi
Publisher: Taylor & Francis US
ISBN: 9780387280929
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 536
Book Description
Optimal control methods are used to determine optimal ways to control a dynamic system. The theoretical work in this field serves as a foundation for the book, which the authors have applied to business management problems developed from their research and classroom instruction. Sethi and Thompson have provided management science and economics communities with a thoroughly revised edition of their classic text on Optimal Control Theory. The new edition has been completely refined with careful attention to the text and graphic material presentation. Chapters cover a range of topics including finance, production and inventory problems, marketing problems, machine maintenance and replacement, problems of optimal consumption of natural resources, and applications of control theory to economics. The book contains new results that were not available when the first edition was published, as well as an expansion of the material on stochastic optimal control theory.

Optimal Control Using Imbedding of the Terminal Conditions
Author: Raymond C. Montgomery
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aeronautics
Languages : en
Pages : 66
Book Description
Imbedding theory is used to construct solutions of autonomous optimal control problems with free termination time; this is accomplished by imbedding the trajectory optimization problem of interest in a continuous family of problems which are parameterized by terminal conditions. Necessary conditions are derived which determine the modifications in the control functions required when passing from the solution corresponding to one member of the family to that corresponding to another member when their terminal conditions differ infinitesimally. By continuously collapsing the terminal conditions of the family of problems onto those of the original problem while appropriately modifying the control function, the solution to the original optimization problem can be obtained. A problem is solved for finding the time-optimal maneuvers for an airplane to maneuver in such a way that the target vehicle (assumed to be nonmaneuvering) is placed in a situation favorable to deployment of the airplane's armament. The solutions to this problem are composed of both singular and nonsingular subarcs of the trajectory. Thus, the utility of imbedding in solving singular optimal control problems is illustrated.
