Book Description
This study provided a county-funded reentry resource management center located in Texas with evaluative strategies to ensure the implementation of evidence-based practices and effective use of funds. This research explored recidivism within a local jail setting. The researcher performed a critical analysis of the reentry center’s existing logic model in order to operationalize elements intended to accomplish the overall mission to reduce recidivism within the county. Staff interviews provided insight into perceptions of legitimacy toward the center’s mission, respective job-related duties, and the logic model. Finally, several quantitative analyses describe the demographic- and offense-related data of the client base, as well as recidivism rates compared to the general population in the local jail. The analyses performed found that outreach efforts target parolee populations rather than individuals serving time in the local jail. While causation cannot be concluded due to the referral-based services provided by the center’s staff, individuals who become clients were rearrested less often than non-clients. The study concludes with several recommendations for expanding outreach and recidivism data access as well as incorporating client feedback to better serve unique release populations.

StarBriefs 2001

StarBriefs 2001 PDF Author:
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 940114351X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 805

Book Description
This compilation probably looks like one of the craziest things a human being could spend his or her time on. Yet nobody would wonder at someone taking a short walk every day - after twenty five years that person would have covered a surprisingly long distance. This is exactly the story behind this list, which appeared first as a few pages within the directory StarGuides (or whatever name it had at that time) and as a distinct sister publication since 1990. The idea behind this dictionary is to offer astronomers and related space scientists practical assistance in decoding the numerous abbreviations, acronyms, contractions and symbols which they might encounter in all aspects of the vast range of their professional activities, including traveling. Perhaps it is a bit paradoxical, but if scientists quickly grasp the meaning of an acronym solely in their own specific discipline, they will probably encounter more difficulties when dealing with adjacent fields. It is for this purpose that this dictionary might be most often used. Scientists might also refer to this compilation in order to avoid identifying a project by an acronym which already has too many meanings or confused definitions.

Professional Lives of Community Corrections Officers: The Invisible Side of Reentry

Professional Lives of Community Corrections Officers: The Invisible Side of Reentry PDF Author: Faith E. Lutze
Publisher: SAGE Publications
ISBN: 1483322467
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
One of the first contemporary works to bring together research focused on community corrections officers, Professional Lives of Community Corrections Officers: The Invisible Side of Reentry, by Faith E. Lutze, helps readers understand the importance of community corrections officers to the success of the criminal justice system. The author brings the important work of these officers out from the shadows of the prison and into the light of informed policymaking, demonstrating how their work connects to the broader political, economic, and social context. Arguing that they are "street-level boundary spanners" who are in the best position to lead effective reentry initiatives built on interagency collaboration, the author shows how community corrections officers can effectively lead a fluid response to reentry that is inclusive of control, support, and treatment. This supplement is ideal for community corrections or probation and parole courses to supplement core textbooks.

But They All Come Back

But They All Come Back PDF Author: Jeremy Travis
Publisher: The Urban Insitute
ISBN: 9780877667506
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 424

Book Description
The iron law of imprisonment is that “they all come back”. In 2002, more than 630,000 individuals left U.S. federal and state prisons. Thirty years ago, only 150,000 did. In this study, Travis decribes the new realities of imprisonment, and explores the impact of returning prisoners on seven policy domains: public safety, families and children, work, housing, public health, civic identity, and community capacity. Travis proposes a new architecture for the criminal justice system, organized around five principles of reentry, to encourage change and spur innovation.

Your Money, Your Goals

Your Money, Your Goals PDF Author: Consumer Financial Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781508906827
Category : Finance, Personal
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Welcome to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Your Money, Your Goals: A financial empowerment toolkit for social services programs! If you're reading this, you are probably a case manager, or you work with case managers. Finances affect nearly every aspect of life in the United States. But many people feel overwhelmed by their financial situations, and they don't know where to go for help. As a case manager, you're in a unique position to provide that help. Clients already know you and trust you, and in many cases, they're already sharing financial and other personal information with you. The financial stresses your clients face may interfere with their progress toward other goals, and providing financial empowerment information and tools is a natural extension of what you are already doing. What is "financial empowerment" and how is it different from financial education or financial literacy? Financial education is a strategy that provides people with financial knowledge, skills, and resources so they can get, manage, and use their money to achieve their goals. Financial education is about building an individual's knowledge, skills, and capacity to use resources and tools, including financial products and services. Financial education leads to financial literacy. Financial empowerment includes financial education and financial literacy, but it is focused both on building the ability of individuals to manage money and use financial services and on providing access to products that work for them. Financially empowered individuals are informed and skilled; they know where to get help with their financial challenges. This sense of empowerment can build confidence that they can effectively use their financial knowledge, skills, and resources to reach their goals. We designed this toolkit to help you help your clients become financially empowered consumers. This financial empowerment toolkit is different from a financial education curriculum. With a curriculum, you are generally expected to work through most or all of the material in the order presented to achieve a specific set of objectives. This toolkit is a collection of important financial empowerment information and tools you can access as needed based on the client's goals. In other words, the aim is not to cover all of the information and tools in the toolkit - it is to identify and use the information and tools that are best suited to help your clients reach their goals.
