Book Description
Application of the Falkner lifting-surface-theory method to the prediction of hinge-moment and, incidentally, lift parameters for swept-back plan forms has been made in an attempt to develop an analogue to the existing lifting-surface-theory procedure for prediction of these parameters on unswept plan forms. For the two specific swept-back plan forms investigated the hinge-moment predictions based on the Falkner method were not in good agreement with experimental values. The discrepancies between the predicted and the experimental results probably are due to the effects of fluid viscosity which were not included in the Falkner method as applied herein.

Method for Calculating Lift Distribtutions for Unswept Wings with Flaps Or Ailerons by Use of Nonlinear Section Lift Data
Author: James C. Sivells
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Ailerons
Languages : en
Pages : 722
Book Description
A method is presented for calculating lift distributions for unswept wings with flaps or ailerons using nonlinear section lift data. This method is based upon lifting-line theory and is an extension to the method described by NACA Report 865. Simplified computing forms containing detailed examples are given for both symmetrical and asymmetrical lift distributions. A few comparisons of experimental and calculated characteristics are also presented.

The Inward Bulge Type Buckling of Monocoque Cylinders
Author: Nicholas John Hoff
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Bending
Languages : en
Pages : 682
Book Description
A strain energy theory is developed for the calculation of the critical load for the inward bulge type of general instability of reinforced monocoque cylinders subjected to pure bending. The deflected shape at buckling is assumed to be represented by an expression containing eight free parameters in addition to the two characterizing the wave lengths of the circumferential and axial directions. The theory is applied to two representative cylinders of the GALCIT test series and to two of the PIBAL series. The critical stresses calculated are 8.3 to 22.9 percent higher than the experimental values.
