Book Description
"Buried treasure" is a popular way of describing women in the New Testament. Rarely are these women presented as role models and rarely do they get mentioned in homilies! Choices for Sunday readings do little to highlight these women's contributions to the early church and the spread of Christianity. The women portrayed in this book embody the enduring values that answer our spiritual needs and satisfy our spiritual hunger. Their moral courage, selfless love and fidelity to Jesus' teachings make them models of discipleship-models that never go out of fashion. Turpin brings to life these women: Peter's wife, Salome, Mary (wife of Cleopas), Joanna (wife of Chuza), Martha and Mary of Bethany, Mary of Magdala, Mary of Jerusalem, Tabitha of Joppa, Lydia of Philippi, Prisca (coworker of Paul) and Phoebe (deacon of Cenchreae). Each chapter includes an imaginative portrait of the woman disciple, based on current Scripture scholarship and other historical and archaeological resources; an afterword that updates the reader on the woman; faith-sharing questions; sidebar quotes pertaining to the woman or the time period or some trait of the woman; and an original prayer about the woman.

Junia

Junia PDF Author: Eldon Jay Epp
Publisher: Fortress Press
ISBN: 9780800637712
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
The name "Junia" appears in Romans 16:7, and Paul identifies her (along with Andronicus) as "prominent among the apostles." In this important work, Epp investigates the mysterious disappearance of Junia from the traditions of the church. Because later theologians and scribes could not believe (or wanted to suppress) that Paul had numbered a woman among the earliest churches' apostles, Junia's name was changed in Romans to a masculine form. Despite the fact that the earliest churches met in homes and that other women were clearly leaders in the churches (e.g., Prisca and Lydia), calling Junia an apostle seemed too much for the tradition. Epp tracks how this happened in New Testament manuscripts, scribal traditions, and translations of the Bible. In this thoroughgoing study, Epp restores Junia to her rightful place.

Junia Arise

Languages : en
Pages : 312

Book Description
HER NAME IS JUNIA. SHE WAS AN APOSTLE. And Paul the Apostle calls her outstanding among the apostles in Romans 16:7. But a centuries-old dark conspiracy changed her name to Junias - a man's name. She was meant to be hidden forever, buried under the deceptive lies forged by religious misogynists that would seek to eradicate her memory from the pages of Holy Scripture and early church history. But recent "truth seekers" among highly-respected academics and theologians over the past 20 or more years have resurrected her from the ashes of this deception to shine the light on the reputation of this incredible woman of God - Junia the Apostle. Junia Arise: Apostolic Women on the Frontlines is an anthology of 48 writers who have collaborated together with Apostle Axel Sippach to contribute a chapter each, highlighting an amazing woman in Scripture or church history that did tremendous things for God's Kingdom in spite of challenges, including the challenge of being a woman called, chosen, and anointed of God. This book will inspire, empower, and motivate you to be and do all God has called you to. Many of you may have felt hidden, buried, and forgotten like Junia, but God is raising you up and taking you from a place of obscurity to a place where you arise and shine because now your light has come.
