Astonishing Experiences
Author: Mitchell M. Allen Ed.D.
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 148170883X
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 247
Book Description
Most adults are familiar with the quote "a picture is worth a thousand words," which coincides with the intent of this book to share my astonishing experiences with mostly color pictures. While writing this book, I enjoyed revisiting some of the pictures you are about to see as you stroll through the ten chapters. I decided to write each chapter chronologically; however, the document consists of selected noteworthy topics covering my grade school days until the present time. This document presented an opportunity to share how a Black male moved through local, state, and national systems that discriminated against minorities. I recorded my astonishing experiences, from being raised in Clinton Park, to moving to upscale Timber Crest, to serving in the military, to coping with employment, surviving three marriages, and holding membership in four churches. These experiences provide exceptional peace and joy to my life as well trouble and sorrow as I have lived beyond seventy years old. God's grace and mercy carried me to where I am, and with great delight, I present to you my astonishing life experiences.

The British National Daily Press and Popular Music, c.19561975
Author: Gillian A.M. Mitchell
Publisher: Anthem Press
ISBN: 1783089105
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 150
Book Description
The British National Daily Press and Popular Music c.1956–1975 constitutes a reappraisal of the reactions of the national daily press to forms of music popular with young people in Britain from the mid-1950s to the 1970s (including rock ‘n’ roll, skiffle, ‘beat group’ and rock music). Conventional histories of popular music in Britain frequently accuse the newspapers of generating ‘moral panic’ with regard to these musical genres and of helping to shape negative attitudes to the music within the wider society. This book questions such charges and considers whether alternative perspectives on press attitudes towards popular music may be discerned. In doing so, it also challenges the tendency to perceive evidence from newspapers straightforwardly as a mere illustration of wider social trends and considers the manner in which the post-war newspaper industry, as a sociocultural entity in its own right, responded to developments in youth culture as it faced distinctive challenges and pressures amid changing times.
