Book Description
Alice is feeling bored and drowsy while sitting on the riverbank with her older sister, who is reading a book with no pictures or conversations. She then notices a White Rabbit wearing a waistcoat and pocket watch, talking to itself as it runs past. She follows it down a rabbit hole, but suddenly falls a long way to a curious hall with many locked doors of all sizes. Glass House: Alice is playing with a white kitten and a black kitten the offspring of Dinah, Alice's cat in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland--when she ponders what the world is like on the other side of a mirror's reflection. Climbing up onto the fireplace mantel, she pokes at the wall-hung mirror behind the fireplace and discovers, to her surprise, that she is able to step through it to an alternative world. In this reflected version of her own house, she finds a book with looking-glass poetry, "Jabberwocky", whose reversed printing she can read only by holding it up to the mirror.

Book Description
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll's classic work of imagination, logical play, and whimsy, remains one of the greatest works of fantastic literature ever conceived. The titular Alice, as well as side characters such as the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, and the Mad Hatter, have become household names, and the book has inspired innumerable adaptations in film, animation, radio, books, music, and painting. Its roots in both childish inspiration and mathematic logic make it an ideal read for both children and adults, or children and adults together.Lewis Carroll, pseudonym of Charles Dodgson, created the basis of the stories while sailing on the Thames in 1862 with his Oxonian colleague Henry Liddell's daughter Alice. The young girl was bored with the boat trip, so Carroll began telling stories about a girl named Alice and her adventures. The real Alice begged Carroll to write down the stories, and after expanding them into a much larger context, Alice in Wonderland was published in 1865. Carroll was a talented mathematician, publishing several books on mathematics and logic, as well as a gifted story-teller. As a combination of both sides of Carroll's prodigious cerebral abilities, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland continue to entertain and amaze each generation since their publication more than a century and a half ago. If the reader has enjoyed any of the adaptations, the she or he will be even more delighted with the original.
