Book Description
Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There is the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Set some six months later than the earlier book, Alice again enters a fantastical world, this time by climbing through a mirror into the world that she can see beyond it. Through the Looking-Glass includes such celebrated verses as Jabberwocky, and The Walrus and the Carpenter, and the episode involving Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland began as a story told to three little girls in a rowboat, near Oxford. Ten year old Alice Liddell asked to have the story written down and two years later it was published with immediate success. Through the Looking-Glass was published six years later. Carroll's unique play on logic has undoubtedly led to the books' lasting appeal to adults, while remaining two of the most beloved children's tales of all time. This edition is complete with all 42 original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, and is limited to 1,000 copies.

Book Description
Collectors and sellers of early-American Editions of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass are occasionally frustrated in trying to decide what version of the book they have and the date of publication. The author has solved much of the ambiguity surrounding these editions and hence the title Much of a Muchness (a Shakespearian quote by the Dormouse at the Mad Tea Party). Byron W. Sewell documented his findings in a bibliography privately published in 1992 in an edition severely limited to 17 copies for fellow Lewis Carroll collectors. Though some mysteries still remain, this bibliography is the best source currently available for the period 1866 - 1960. It is here reprinted for the first time in a facsimile edition. Unlike the first edition, which lacked illustrations, this facsimile is graced by scans of the covers of numerous pre-1930 American editions from the glorious collection of the eminent Carroll collector, Alan Tannenbaum.
